~Niall~
"Now, don't let go of mumma's hand, okay?"
Niall nodded curtly and clutched his mother's strong hand with his tiny one. They walked through the fair, Niall swinging their intertwined hands back and forth, playfully.
He loved his mam, with all his heart, but sometimes she could get overprotective. He was six, for crying out loud, almost seven. He was almost an adult, and his mam was going to have to accept that he was old enough to be on his own. Because he was almost seven.
But he did love the times she'd sing him to sleep, or pet his hair when he cried, and he would always love that, no matter how old he got. He'd want that for the rest of his life. He'd want to be with his mam for the rest of his life.
Ireland fairs, or carnivals, were always loud and crowded, filled with drunk men and yelling of things a six year old shouldn't hear, but with his mam by his side, he knew he'd be okay.
She stopped at a clothing store, and pulled him inside. "Mumma'll only take a few minutes, so stay right next to me, okay, Pooka?"
Niall giggled at the funny name his mam liked to call him and he nodded once, and let go of her hand, but stuck close to her side while she inspected some clothes.
If he'd thought about what his mam had always told him, how he should never, ever stray away from her, he probably wouldn't have gone, but he didn't, so Niall wandered towards the door, away from her, to go see what that giant cartoon dog by the white van was doing. It was obviously a costume, but Niall loved those types of things. Knowing there was something inside of something else.
He giggled happily when the dog noticed him and beckoned him over. He ran across, his mam yet to notice his disappearance, and stood in front of the doggy and beamed brightly.
"Where's ya mum, kiddo?" The muffled voice didn't sound too friendly, and Niall should have left and gone straight back to his mam, but he didn't. He pointed back to where she was shifting through clothes, not noticing her missing child. Niall didn't blame her. He was generally a quiet whenever they were in public, but at home, he loved to yell at the top of his lungs and laugh at everything and anything. But in public, he'd never do anything to embarrass his mam.
"Oh. Ya shouldn't 'ave left 'er there, kid." The man pulled off his costume head and Niall panicked. The man had a shaved head, scar over his left eye, and the eyes of a killer. He was his mam's definition of a bad man.
And his mam always told him to run from the bad man.
Niall squealed and quickly turned to run, back into his mam's arms, back to his home, but the man grabbed him around his waist and moved to throw him into the back of the car.
