Chapter 4
Louis struggled to get to sleep. His back ached and he felt constricted. He needed some air. He pulled the covers off and glanced at the time.
2:54 A.M.
He rubbed his hands over his face, frustrated. It's always hard sleeping in a new place.
He got up from his bed and walked to the window, staring outside. The moon was still out and Louis could feel how cold the glass was. He yearned to open the window and go outside.
So that's what he did. He wasn't sure what was running through his head as he pulled the handle and slide up the glass. His mind was still blank when he put his feet out, dangling them. He pulled the rest of his body outside, sitting on the ledge, and breathed in the crisp air. It pierced through his nose and refreshed his lungs.
He admired the lights of the cars from 5 stories up. It was late but the streets were still quite busy. There were lights from cars, house, streetlights. Lot's of things. But none of them shined brighter in Louis' eyes than the moon.
So bright and majestic. Full and silver. Nothing could beat it. Louis just wanted to reach out and touch it. His hand unconsciously lifted itself and moved his body forward, causing him to fall off.
His reflexes took over quickly and grabbed the nearest thing he could, which was the ledge. He hung from the ledge of the window, attempting to pull himself up. Too bad for him that his wings decided to come out.
So there he was, hanging on a small 6 inch ledge, wings out for everyone to see. He tried to pull himself up, but the weight on his back wasn't helping in the slightest.
Maybe if he tried to fly................? But how does one do that? He tried to get the wings to flap up and down but they felt heavier every second.
He finally got a full grasp of the ledge and pulled himself back inside. He collapsed to the floor, on his die, and took in heavy breaths. Never was he doing that again.
He still couldn't sleep. If anything, after that, he was even more awake, than tired. his wings were still out so going outside was out of the question.
He glanced at the laptop on the desk. Should he? He settled on the bed, as his wings wouldn't fit the computer chair and pulled the device towards him.
He logged into Facebook and immediately knew it was a mistake, seeing as his inbox was full of messages from friends from school.
He scrolled through them. Most were asking him what happened in the house, others telling him how glad they were that he was gone.
A particular one caught his eye and he froze. It wasn't from a friend. The name was Gavin Talbet. No picture but the message read:
We see you.
Louis slammed the laptop shut and pushed it to the floor, causing a thump. He shuddered at the voice he had heard back at the airport. It didn't sound..............human.
Louis clutched at the ends of his wings and pulled them around him, bringing his knees to his chest. What's happened to his life?
----------------------------
Louis ended up staying awake the entire night, just thinking. About his life, his parent, his friends, and more importantly, his wings.
He had to learn how to control them. They couldn't just pop out in the middle of the day.
