Mateo's POV

He always loved his privacy and his own company. He hated having people crowd his space, he had no problem however with Ed and Chase crowding it. Ed was his caretaker and Chase was his best friend afterall.
Although he and Chase were best friends they were so different, Chase was always the fun and playful one. Then he on the other hand was the serious one, he knew he wasn't all like that but he didn't have to show his other side. People would think he's weak, and in his world emotions were a weakness.

He really didn't care whether people died or they lived. He had lived a long life to know that people come and go, he had also lost a lot of people to know that. He was in his room when he heard tiny steps just above him, she had woken up. Great! She would finally go,suddenly she stopped. 'What was she up to?' He walked over to his wide open window and tried to hear her clearly, then he saw her fall.

He wanted to let her fall but he somehow couldn't. Even though he wasn't a nice person, he still believed in fairness. She had already almost died last night, so he wouldn't let her die not after all the trouble Chase went through to keep her life. A normal healthy human wouldn't die from the fall but considered that she was weak and low on blood, if she fell and hit her head; she'd die instantly.

'Oh well' he sighed and jumped out of the window and stood at the ground to catch her. He tried to reprimand her for trying to kill herself but she was already out like a light. 'What was wrong with her?' he asked himself. He carried her back to the room and attached the drip back to her wrist. ' I really hate suicidal people' he adjusted her pillow and let her sleep.

Chase came in and asked what happened and he just shrugged. Chase told him to go eat and that he'd look after her. Not like he was willing to take care of her but he went out and ate the breakfast Chase prepared. Ed asked him if he was going to the office but he didn't feel like going today so he told him to call his assistant and tell her he wasn't coming.

He didn't do much when he wasn't at the office, he sat in his study and went through a few proposals, the stock market and the financial reports. When that bored him, he went swimming in the lake then he'd come back and repeat the same thing over and over again. He felt bored, he went to check on Chase.

" Do you wanna hit the club?"

" No. But you can go, I'm going to stay at look after her."

" Spit it out, she's not the only person we've ever almost killed but you're stuck on her like glue. What's the deal?"

" I just like her. She's so modest, she's scared. I don't know but I somehow want to protect her."

" Protect her from what?"

" Everything. She looks like she's been through a lot."

" And you could tell that by just looking at her."

" Yes. You also know it too. That's why you chose her. You could have fed on anyone but you chose her."

"You should eat."

" Not like I'm going to die if I don't eat, it's okay."

Then she suddenly spoke in her sleep,"Everything will be okay Mom. You'll be fine. I promise I'll always hold your hand, we'll get through this...together."

Chase rushed over to her side and held her hand. He wiped the sweat of her face. She held his hand tighter. He looked at her, she looked cute in her sleep. He already thought she was pretty before but she looked even more prettier when she was sleeping. He gently smiled at her. She slighty parted her lips. Was she thirsty? He let go of her hand and flashed to go get her a glass of water with a straw.

He put the straw in her mouth, she wasn't drinking.

" That was stupid." Mateo shaked his head

" At least I'm trying."

" Maybe her lips were just dry."

" Why are you still in here?"

" My house, remember." He sat down in the chair in the corner, " Plus I like watching you fuss over a girl you don't know. I want to see how this is going to turn out."

" Shut up man."

"As you wish."

Chase went out and came back a few minutes later.

" You're flashing a lot."

" I had to get her something for lips."

" You could've just licked them, I did."

" You what?"

" Her lips were dry and I don't have anything for them so I licked them."

" What? That's disgusting! You're disgusting."

"I should've let her lips break. Okay noted. Will do that next time. I'm getting take out, you want something?"

" You should get cleaners. Your place is dusty."

" They only clean on the weekends."

" You should change that."
