Chapter 3: Trial

AIX - EN - PROVENCE, FRANCE : 1549

A man with short graying hair, and a mustache wearing a suit was standing in a chapel with other TVA guards. Around them, we're several dead bodies of other guards.

"The Hunter and his Minutemen responded to a routine nexus event. It appears when they arrived, somebody got the jump on em." A Minuteman reported.

"You think?" The man in the suit replied sarcastically.

"It's him, Mobius." A Hunter called U-29 accused.

The man named Mobius knelt by one of the bodies. "Yeah, stab wounds look consistent with the others. Positioning of the bodies indicates they don't know what the hell hit 'em. And reset charge is gone."

"That's the sixth attack in the last week." U-29 pointed out.

"That we know of..."

Suddenly, they all heard a crashing noise by the entrance. They turned and saw a little boy standing in the entrance. U-29 pulled out his weapon, but Mobius placed an arm in front of him.

"Stand down, stand down. It's just a kid." The man slowly started to approach the kid, and spoke to him in French. "I'm sorry, my friend is an imbecile."

"Hey, yo! I speak every language in the timeline too. Jackass." U-29 mumbled.

The man in the suit approached the young boy. He pulled out his small device and drew a stick figure on the screen. He handed it to the boy who took it, and the stick figure became 3-D and started walking in place on the device.

The boy smiled, and the man smiled too. "Do you know who did this?"

The boy pointed to a stained glass window that had an image of a devil.

"Don't worry, that devils afraid of us. We're gonna take care of him. And we're gonna out you back where you belong."

The boy smiled, revealing some blue teeth.

The man furrowed his brows. "That blue...what is that?"

The boy reached into his pocket and pulled out a small box of candy called Kablooie. That definitely wasn't something from the 1500s.

"A devil bearing gifts..." the man handed it to U-29. "Go ahead and run this for sequence period and any hints of temporal aura."

"You know we won't get anything."

"Yeah, just give it a shot."

U-29 pulled out his device. It showed a wavy blue line that represented the Sacred Timeline, and a yellow line was branching away from it, slowly rising towards a red line.

"The branch is nearing red line. We need to go."

"Okay." Mobius looked to the kid. "Go wait outside. It's okay."

After the kid left, a door appeared next to Mobius.

A female Hunter stepped through it, holding some files under her arm.
