Denji opened the door to their small apartment. The door was left unlocked. Denji was tired but he also needed to teach Nayuta the proper rules of their apartment
"NAYUTA! WHAT HAVE I TOLD YOU ABOUT LEAVING THE DOOR UNLOCKED!"
The young devil walked out of her room groaning with annoyance.
"Ugh, it was one time! Leave me alone! It's not like anyone got in anyway!" Nayuta argued back. Denji was just about fed up with the small devil before... Power chimed in?
"NAYUTA! WHAT IF SOMETHING WERE TO HAPPEN TO MEOWY? OR YOU! WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOU WERE TAKING AWAY FROM THE BEST CARETAKER IN THE WORLD!?"
Her voice was genuine even if her words weren't which surprised the young hybrid. Last time Denji checked, Power was never the motherly type, nor the big sister type. Seeing her like this had him confused beyond belief but he was honestly too tired and too confused about other things to care. He simply nodded showing he was agreeing with Power. Nayuta tried to bounce back
"I- I wou- Ugh! Listen it was only one time! It won't happen again I promise!" Nayuta stormed back to her room and slammed the door. Denji was debating on scolding her for slamming it but decided it wasn't worth his time.
"Thanks, Powey." Power looked at him confused, not because she didn't understand why she was being thanked but because she was confused about why she felt so... fuzzy. after being called Powey. He hasn't called her that in ages why start again? Power could feel her face heating up. Damn, fever. She quickly grabbed the grocery bag out of Denji's hand snagging the little bottle out of it, quickly opening it she was going to chug it but Denji stopped her. He held her hand in place and gently took the bottle of her hand.
"Power, you can't just drink the entire bottle! You'll get sick!" Power just looked at him the redness on her face not letting up.
"How can I get sick again if I'm already sick? Also isn't this medicine thing supposed to heal sickness not make you more sick?!" Denji looked at the bottle and then back at her.
"Well, I don't exactly know... But I heard it in school one time. They said if you take too much medicine at a time then you would get sick and could die." He examined the bottle some more and began searching the floor eventually finding the little plastic lid that came with it. He held it up to Power's face while reading the bottle.
"It says here that for people between the ages of... Wait how old are you Power?" Power shrugged.
"I was always under the impression that your human years and our devil years worked differently."
Denji sighed.
"Well, sense Nayuta seems to be growing with the other kids in her class I would say you grow normally. You're not too different from her right? So that means hmm..." He got close to Power to the point she got to smell him. She got the weird feeling again. Denji stepped back and thought to himself.
"Well, from what I know you're a similar height with girls in school who are my age so I'm just gonna say you're... 17. So you should take about... 20...M, L?" He looked at the bottle again and then the little plastic cup. He found the lines that said ml on them and eventually found the 20ml line. He walked over to the kitchen, Power following close behind. He took the cap and held it over the sink before gently pouring the red thick liquid into it making sure not to spill any as he got close to the 20ml. After he was done pouring it he held it out to Power.
"Here, Drink this then drink some water. It's gonna taste bad but don't spit it out!" His voice sounded caring but also demanding at the same time. Power nodded and took the cap, she threw her head back with the cap like she seen people do in movies with glasses that looked similar to this one. But unlike in those movies as soon as the liquid touched her tongue she wanted to gag and spit it out. But she felt some desire to make Denji proud, to get Denji to praise her so she swallowed and quickly turned the kitchen tap on shooting her head down into the flow of water so she can rid her mouth of the vile taste. She looked up at Denji and did her best to smile proudly.
"Twasn't that bad at all! In fact I think it tasted wonderful!" She was lying through her teeth and Denji knew. But he got a weird feeling in his stomach that made him he want to see her smile for real and not that plastic smile she was showing now. He thought for a moment thinking about what he could do to make her smile. Then he got an idea.
"Good job Power! You showed that medicine who's boss!" He pumped his fist in the air and he got to see Power's real smile which made him smile.
