As the months after school break passed, their bond deepened. They enjoyed quiet dinners, long walks, and late-night conversations about their dreams and future. They even planned going out for a date to bridge the gap and build trust and connection between them.
Then, in early 2020, news of the coronavirus outbreak began to spread. At first, it seemed distant, a problem for other parts of the world. But as the virus rapidly moved closer to home, their plans started to unravel. Every municipality/city went into lockdown, and their dream date was postponed indefinitely. They promised each other that they would go as soon as it was safe.
Due to the Coronavirus outbreak. Classes have been suspended that have been etched to each and everyone of us. It's been embedded that the year 2020 is a year of disaster. That was also the year where Shylie and Allistair barely talked.
From hours to days, days turned into weeks, and weeks into months. They stayed in touch through messages and occasional video calls, but it wasn't the same. The physical distance grew into emotional distance, and they struggled to find the connection they once hadAllistair moved to his last year of being a Junior High School. Though it's hard for him to adjust to the new learning modality, he never noticed Shylie isn't in the rhythm. Little did he know, Shylie transferred to another school without him knowing. Somewhere close to her hometown. They both graduated but not in the same school. So after that, Shylie and Allistair barely talked as the distance seperated them.
Allistair: You transferred?
Shylie: You're out of date, bro. I did
Allistair: And without informing me?
And Shylie never replied to that.
Yes, it's hard for them to adjust given by the global pandemic.
When they engage in a colloquy together, it's all about their schoolworks and other school related stuffs like surveys, questions, or even ask for help about it. Sometimes they do some catch-ups but only a few things shared together. One time, they both had free time so they talked through chat and shared things that happened between them for the past few moments of their life. Including how Allistair met Bianca and became together.
"I'm happy for you" my tears came to blur my vision as I smiled at what she just said.
But me and Bianca were over when I shared that due to some reasons my heart can't really endure. It turns out she prioritizes things over our relationship. She values her time more for online games she barely can give it to me. So I ended things between us because I can't afford for more days/months to endure a suffering from it. I got tired crying over it. That's who I am, who I was, and who I am going to be. For a right girl I guess
Until we finally graduated to Junior High School.
Allistair: Congrats!
Shylie: Thanks!!!
Allistair: Can I see your graduation picture?
Shylie: I don't like, it's ugly
Allistair: I'll show mine as well if you show yours
Shylie: 🫣🫣🫣
Just like that, cold as Ice
The pandemic raged on as the proliferation of positive cases marches to the beat of the drum. Schools implemented online classes to circumvent their students from having been infected by the virus. It was also the time as I embarked from Junior High School to Senior High School. Though it's hard to adjust ourselves to the given learning modality, we have to. Because as the world taught us, nothing comes permanently. Life goes with continuous adjustment, learn how to roll with the punches.
