"I don't love you anymore." He watched a tear fall from your eyes, how could you look so perfect even when crying? and even when lying.
You might've not spent much time together but during the time that you did, Charles learned everything about you, the way your body would react, the little expressions you would do. The way you'd unfurrow your brows when you lied in order to appear more relaxed, was a dead giveaway.
"I don't believe you." Charles's heart beat with hope despite receiving the opposite answer of what he hoped for.
You seemed stunned at his reaction not knowing what to do or say now. "Well it's the truth so-" You shrugged, your attempt at holding yourself together failing.
"You're lying." Charles took the risk of stepping closer to you.
He saw your breath hitch at the sudden closeness, your crossed arms stopping him from touching your own chest but still you felt his lips close to your forehead.
"No I-" You attempted to lie once more.
"I know you're lying please let me fix us," Charles whispered.
"There is no us...there never was." You looked up at him, tears streaming down both your eyes.
"Stop lying, I might have never asked you to be mine but you and I both know what we had was special, there was an us and you can't deny it." Charles cupped your cheek in his hands.
"I don't know what you want me to do now. I forced myself to forget Charles, forget everything I felt for you, to forget the way you made me feel and I'm scared to feel again because I don't think I could go through losing you again." Your tears were more constant now.
"You won't have to." Charles was quick to reassure you. Maybe he was getting ahead of himself, he couldn't predict the future, and he knew he couldn't promise you something like this when he was only getting you back but he had also never been more sure of anything before.
The last year was full of pain and misery, the way life stopped making sense when he lost you only proved to him that as soon as he got you back he would do everything in his power to keep you his, to keep you happy, "I'll spend my whole life proving to you how much I love you if you give me another chance." Charles risked it once more placing a kiss on your forehead.
And that was it.
Maybe you were too weak, maybe this was wrong, maybe this was incredibly toxic but right now every fiber of you told you otherwise. And you sure as hell weren't strong enough to ignore the desires of your flesh.
So uncrossing your arms you gave in, wrapping them around him as if he was the only one keeping you afloat.
"I'm sorry." Charles hugged you back incredibly relieved to feel you in his arms once more. "I love you." He whispered again and again as if saying it enough times would make you believe him more.
"I do love you and I never stopped," you admitted looking up to meet his gaze once more.
"Please give me another chance," Charles asked once more.
This time you didn't let yourself hesitate, you didn't let your thoughts run and simply said what your heart told you to say. "Okay." you nodded.
The overwhelming amount of joy that flooded Charles's body made all the pain and ache he'd suffered through the last year dissipate, a long-forgotten feeling he prayed would never reemerge.
Leaning down to capture your lips in his he was relieved once more to feel you reciprocate the kiss, pulling his shirt so you were closer, as if begging him to never stop and he'd be happy to do so if you weren't forced to pull away for air.
You still stayed wrapped in each other's arms for a while, a few tears still escaped your eyes at the emotional moment but ultimately they were mostly tears of relief that you both had each other again.
Charles tried to soothe you placing small kisses on your head while rubbing your back softly. "How many classes do you have left cherie?" He asked, his voice soft.
"I finished a few hours ago but I don't like being home...it reminded me of you," you admitted.
"Well, I'm here now." Charles sighed. "So why don't we get something to eat and head home?" He suggested.
He just felt you nod. Looking at you again his heart swelled at your puffy face and red eyes he couldn't help himself and kissed your cheek. "I look disgusting." you laughed wiping your eyes and nose with the back of your sleeve.
"That's impossible cherie, you're the most beautiful girl this universe has ever had in it." Charles put his hat on your head knowing you wouldn't want people to see you like this.
"I don't think that's true." You blushed at his compliment.
"I've traveled far and wide and seen loads of faces I'm highly qualified to make that statement." Charles took your hand as you began walking out.
"Okay, no need to brag Mr.Worldwide." You joked with him.
Falling back to your banter, your rhythm was easier than you'd both expected. "I'll show you the world just to prove it."
Your heart fluttered at the proposal. "I don't care where we go as long as it's with you." you stepped closer to him wrapping your hand around his arm that held your hand.
"For now let's go home." Charles smiled kissing your temple.
