____

You'd been sitting up in bed for around 2 hours now incapable of going to bed as you tried to focus on breathing through the oncoming pain.

You'd started timing the contractions and in the last 40 minutes, they'd started becoming closer and closer in time, just one after the other.

You held back from calling out to your mother-in-law, who slept only in the next room, not because you feared bothering her but because it meant it was all going to start, and it was all going to be real, and Charles wasn't there.

He was currently on a flight back from Azerbaijan that although it wasn't too long a flight by your calculations he still had around 3 hours left of flight time. You tried holding back, tried breathing through the pain but by the time the beads of sweat coming down your forehead were blurring your vision you knew there was no more you could do.

"Pascale!" You sobbed, distraught at the idea your baby would be born without her father present. "Pascale!"

You heard her rush out of the guest room before the door burst open, her eyes wide with worry. "Ow, ma cherie," She noticed your desolate expression.

"He's not here yet; I can't—" you cried, and Pascale knew you needed a hug before anything else.

"Ma chou, listen to me." Pascale kneeled in front of you, cupping your cheeks. "You've got this, I'm right here and it'll be okay." She wiped the sweat off your forehead as much as she could.

"We were supposed to have more time... he was supposed to be here." You cried, distraught but also terrified at doing this on your own.

"I know, and I trust he'll get here, but we have to go right now." Pascale was firm.

You nodded reluctantly. Pascale hurried to get the hospital bag while you tried your best to put on a bra and jacket.

The drive to the hospital was intense, it was filled with pained groans from you as Pascale hurried her way through the Monaco streets through to the hospital. She had made sure to leave Charles a message and sent a message to the general family chat calling for some support.

Once arriving you were quickly wheeled into a room where a doctor was quick to examine you. According to him you still had a ways to go which felt impossible considering the pain you were already in.

"This wasn't meant to go like this...this isn't-" You muttered to yourself, it had been another hour and a half of you trying to breathe through the pain leaning forward on the bed. "he was supposed to be here...our first baby he-" you cried. "please get here Charles." You whispered a prayer up to the skies.

"Here you go." Pascale walked back into the room soothingly rubbing your back while she handed you a glass of chipped ice for you to chew on.

"Hey!" You saw Charlotte, Lorenzo's girlfriend walk in quickly dropping her things on the couch to come over to your side.

"Have you heard anything from Charles?" You looked up at her with so much hope in your eyes.

She shook her head. "I'm sorry honey." She too rubbed your back comfortingly.

"I can't have this baby...not without him I can't-" you started panicking again.

"Hey listen to me, you've got this okay." Charlotte tried to comfort you.

"You keep saying that but I really can't." You groaned as another wave of pain coursed through your body. "I can't he's my...he's my Charles you know." You paced around the room. "He's always been there for me, he always knows what to say, he always makes things better and he- he makes things less scary, he's made this whole pregnancy less scary by just being there and he was-" you held onto Charlotte as another contraction came along. "he was supposed to be the strong one here." You cried frustrated. "He knew how terrified I was for this and he promised me he would be here...he would be strong for us, he would-"

"AMOUR!" You jumped as Charles burst through the door.

"Charles- how?!" You momentarily forgot about the pain but were quickly reminded as another contraction came along.

"I'm here baby." He quickly rushed over to your side. "I got you." He held you, his heart aching at the tears that streamed down your cheek.

"You're here." Your tears were of happiness this time as you hugged him. "You're here."

"I promised you." He kissed your cheek, not caring about the sweat.

It had been another 2 hours of pain, another 2 hours of doctors coming in and telling you there was still a while to go. You'd been given things to induce labor, you'd bounced on the ball, you'd been massaged and you'd even gone as far as suggesting Charles just f**** you to see if that would work.

It got to the point where they would break your water and give it some time and if that didn't work it would result in you getting a c-section.

"It hurts so much." You leaned on Charles who sat behind you as you were told to get on the bed but found it too painful to get comfortable without him.

"I know mon amour, but you've got this okay, everything's gonna be okay." He kissed you.

It didn't make sense, but although you still had to breathe through more hours of contractions it felt more bearable with Charles there.

"You're amazing you know that." Shivers coursed your body as you got closer and closer to birth. He kept whispering sweet praises to you as you squeezed his hands tightly.

"I'm scared." you grabbed Charles's arm hiding your face in it.

"Shh I'm right here ma chère." he kissed your head. Charles would never tell you but he was scared too, terrified in fact that despite trying to prepare for complications he would've never imagined it would be this gut-wrenching to see you in so much pain.

You weren't sure how much time had passed, it all simply got fuzzy at some point and you knew Charles would take care of you no matter what happened.

"Alright, it's time to start pushing." You heard the OB.

And so you did, you started pushing for as long as they told you. It was agonizing, you were unsure of where you were getting the strength to keep pushing but every time you heard Charles whisper those sweet words of encouragement and praise behind you it allowed you to muster up the strength for the next push.

"Charlie make it stop-" You cried to your husband after another round of pushing.

"We're almost there baby." you heard the emotion in his voice, Charles unable to hold back his tears once more wanting nothing more than to take all this pain away from you.

"One more push!" You heard the OB again.

You sobbed. "I can't."

"Yes you can mon ange, do it for our sweet baby girl, do it for Céline." he held your hands tightly.

You nodded, taking a few deep breaths before delivering that final push. You felt a huge wave of relief followed by silence. You held Charles tightly as you attempted to look over the sheet draped on your knees at your baby girl.

"Charles why isn't she crying?!" Your heart stopped at the silence. "Charles check on her." You urged your husband.

Charles was equally as terrified as seconds ticked by of pure silence. Charles was about to gently pry your body off him before you heard that sweet sound of your baby's cry.

Both you and Charles audibly let out a sigh of relief as your baby girl cried, watching her face get cleaned up before the nurses let you both see her.

"Oh my god, She's perfect." Your eyes filled with happy tears as you kissed your newborn's forehead.

"She is more than perfect, just like her maman." Charles kissed her forehead too before giving you a quick kiss.

The nurses took her to get her cleaned up. "Go with her Charles, go with Céline." You saw the hesitancy in Charles's eyes of leaving you after such a harrowing labor. "Go amour." You encouraged him. "I'm okay, I promise." You brought his hand up to your lips giving it a kiss.

Charles followed after his daughter but it was no surprise to you that as soon as he left the room Charlotte and Pascale walked in, making sure you were never alone.
