Chapter eleven
"Desperate times, desperate measures."
Having left the hotel they were now driving to the scrap yard "Pope, we're not stealing the drone. We're borrowing it." John B told him "ah, yes, the same logic you used with Ward Cameron's scuba gear which if I remember correctly, is what got you fired?" Summer asked, furrowing her brows and looking at her brother from the passenger seat, as John B rolled his eyes "humans are the only animals that can't tell fantasy from reality." Pope then said "wait, did you come up with that?" John B asked him "no, Albert Bernstein came up with that. But it applies to this whole treasure hunting thing." Pope shared.
"Oh." John B told him "so, which is it?" Pope asked, turning to look at John B and Summer from the back "fantasy or reality?" he asked "why you so weird, Pope?" JJ asked, as he was rolling a joint "it's fantasy, but possible reality." Kiara shared "reality." John B stated, while Summer then chuckled "or..or..a drugged out haze JJ has put us all under." she shared, leaning towards JJ and grabbing the joint before he could light it "and sooner or later we're all gonna wake up in the hospital and all of this will be some really crazy dream." she told them, flinging the blunt out the window, just as they arrived at where they needed to be.
John B then parked the car, as Summer huffed "Kiara, we're up." she told her "lovely." Kiara stated, getting out from the back, while Summer got out of the passenger, Pope and JJ began arguing, as Summer and Kiara walked together, John B looked to them "hey, don't worry. You guys got this." he told them, making Summer chuckle "please, John B, this? This will be the easy part." she told him, turning around walking off toward's a vehicle with a boat attached to it.
The two then had drove it up closer to the gate, finding a security box with a man sitting inside of it "hello?" Kiara asked "yeah, excuse me?" Summer then asked, as the man turned and looked at them, getting out of his cubical, he walked out and met the two at the fence "can I help you two?" he asked, as Summer was smiling "we don't mean to bother, it's just.." she told him, turning back and looking at the vehicle "we got a flat tire." she told him, turning back "so, we were wondering if a man like you could help us fix it?" she asked "yeah." the man told them "yeah." Kiara said "yeah." the man said again, as he turned around.
Kiara then chuckled "dude." she said, as Summer shook her head "I told him it would be easy." she told her, as the man opened the gate and walked out to help them, the three then walked over to the car, or more so the boat on the back of it "it's just this back one. I..I really don't know what happened" Summer told him, chuckling "yeah, probably just been sitting in the yard too long." the man shared "I guess so." Summer told him "yeah, I.. got this." the man told her "thank you." Summer told him, twisting a piece of her hair in between her fingers, as the man bent down to fix it, Kiara looked around for the boys wondering if they got in yet or not.
Summer then smiled down at the man as he looked up at her "you figure it out?" she asked him "yeah." the man told her as he continued his job, but as he did, a dog then could be heard barking which caught the man's attention "you hear that?" he asked "hear what?" Kiara asked him, as the man stood up "oh, Tebow's got something." the man shared, as Summer chuckled "it's probably just a mouse or a squirrel, you know dogs they like to chase things." she told him "yeah." the man said, as he got back to work, Summer turned to Kiara motioning for her to go to the other side, seeing as if this was gonna take any longer they were gonna have to pop another tire.
Where as Kiara walked around to the other side, Summer turned back to the man watching him finish up, but as he did, Kiara wasn't done yet and she knew that if he walked away he would find out what they were really up to, in which Summer stepped forward "um, thank you.." she told him, but as she did, she purposefully stepped wrong in her sandals, hurting her ankle "ow!" she voiced, falling over, but as she did the man caught her "whoa! What happened?" he asked her, as Summer seethed "my ankle! I think I twisted it!" she voiced "oh, can you..can you walk?" the man asked her.
"Yeah, yeah, I think so.." Summer told him, pushing off him, but as she did, her ankle almost gave out on her as she fell again, the man quickly caught her "no, no, okay..uh..let's go get you help, alright?" the man asked her, picking her up and carrying her off past the gate, in which Summer looked back seeing Kiara, knowing the entire plan had gone off the rails.
Where before the man brought her to his office, he carried her around, all the way to where the dog, Tebow was "what's that, huh? What's that, Tebow? Huh? What you got, huh? What you got?" the man asked "uh..I think my ankles feeling better. You can put me down now and uh..take care of whoever that is." Summer told him, as the man put her down, he moved her behind him, although Summer's ankle actually did hurt as she winced "whoever's up there better come on out! I mean it! Don't make me go up there and get your ass!" the man voiced "wait, Bobby! Don't shoot!" JJ voiced, standing up from the boat "it's me, JJ. Luke's kid?" he shared, looking at Summer who was in actual pain.
"What are you doin?" Bobby asked him "I swear, okay? I didn't want to, okay?" JJ asked "Tebow quiet!" the man voiced "my dad made me." JJ told him "don't you lie." Bobby told him, and when he did, Summer chuckled "sir, I know JJ and because I do. I know for a fact that his dad probably made him come here to get something since he got fired and if he didn't he would.." she trailed off, as she looked up at JJ, knowing she was about to say something that nobody else in the group really knew, but she did even if he didn't tell her about it "hit him again." she said, as JJ looked her in the eyes.
Bobby scoffed "son of a bitch!" he voiced "I'm sorry." JJ told him "come on down." Bobby told him, as JJ began climbing down "I almost killed you, wasting my time when I'm trying to help this poor girl." Bobby told him "I know. I'll just come up with something. Tell him I couldn't find it." JJ shared "all right." Bobby then told him, but as he did, Summer then stepped forward "JJ, um can you?" she asked him "yeah. Yeah." JJ told her, walking over to her and picking her up, he began walking off, and as he did, he leaned toward's her "did you actually twist your ankle?" he asked her, and when he did, Summer nodded "yeah." she told him, as JJ sighed "Summer Routeledge." he said, continuing to walk off as Summer leaned into him.
