By the time I got back to class, detention was about done. I opened the door to the classroom and was immediately confused. Fannar wasn't on the ground next to the door and Klaus wasn't in his seat. And the window was wide open. I sighed, knowing the only people who would even attempt something like this.

I talked about Mages before, but they have a counterpart. Warlocks. Warlocks are mass murderers, kidnappers, etcetera. Basically more advanced criminals who use their Talents for evil. The number one thing that defines someone as a Warlock is wanting to get rid of Mages. In their eyes, Mages are the reason they can't do what they do. They might want to kill someone for revenge, but because it's obviously illegal, Mages will probably step in and ruin any plans they have. It doesn't even matter if the person they're trying to kill is a narcissistic sociopath. Mages are meant to protect civilians, and if Warlocks get in their way, then they'll do whatever they can to put them in their place.

To me, this looked intentional. Like a potential kidnapping. Since Klaus had been affected by my potion, he couldn't call for help. Fannar was probably sleeping. I looked out the window and saw nothing. No trace of them at all. At least, not a physical trace. I could smell the residue of the potion lingering on the bushes outside. So I hopped out from the second story building and onto the ground.

I followed the scent but eventually it ended. I was in the forest a bit aways from the school now. I was tired from this much walking and I felt ready to report them as missing to the principal. Suddenly, I heard footsteps approaching at a rapid pace. I turned around to face where the sound was coming from and let out an annoyed sigh when I saw who it was.

She looked out of breath, "Hi, Teach! Where are you going?"

"I'm looking for a blonde idiot and a fellow sleeper. Seen them anywhere?"

"Oh, Klaus and Fannar? They share a class with me, but no, I haven't seen them since fifth period."

"Why are you out here?" I asked.

She replied, "Because I want to help you! You said I have to prove myself to you, so I will! By assisting you in your search for Fannar and Klaus!"

"Fine, you can help. Just stay out of trouble."

The two of us looked around the general area of where we were. When we didn't see anyone, we continued on the path that I was originally going on. I glanced over at Iris. She was on her phone, dialing a number into it. The phone rang, but no one picked up.

"Who're you calling?" I asked.

"I was trying to call Klaus. He gave me his number when he was flirting with me after class. I wasn't into him, but didn't want to be rude. So I kept his number memorized."

"What about Fannar?"

"He was quiet the entire time. Sat in the back of the class and seemed like he was going to doze off any second."

I sighed. This was going to be a long night.

We pursued forward until we reached an old and abandoned warehouse. If anyone was being held hostage, it was in there. I told Iris to stay close behind and we made our way to the outside of the building. I saw a small window about twice my height and told Iris to stand on my shoulders to peek inside. She said that that wasn't necessary, but before I asked why I realized that I never knew what her Talent was. Iris silently jumped up to the window and floated to the window. She wasn't really floating; It was more like she was using her Talent to push herself off of the ground. Like a jetpack. She peered into the warehouse and gasped at the sight of what she saw.
