Alley sat on the wooden floor of her class, lacing the light, pink ribbons of her pointe shoes and tying them into a perfect square knot. She stood up and placed her hands on the barre, directly in front of the large window, looking out to the busy streets of New York City. That was her favorite spot.
She began to stretch and warmed up her foot, as all the students did the same, backpacks scattered on the sides along with ballet slippers.
"Hey," Destiny rushed in. She was the first person to meet when Alley first came to the academy a year ago, and they both just clicked. They have the same classes together and share duets. They were the two.
"Hey, why are you late today?"
"The traffic is sick outside. I had to park at the end of the road and literally ran all the way till here." She nodded with her eyes wide.
"That's okay, you're here now." she giggled.
Destiny only rolled her eyes and began to get ready for class. They both stretch together and started doing their usual routine. After about an hour, Mrs. Monica Davis, their teacher, stopped the pianist and cleared her throat.
"Girls and boys," she called out loud, taking everyone's attention. "We all know there is an act soon, the swan lake act, which is occurring in September, five months from now. I know its too early but we wanted to give you enough time to practice so you students will be trained perfectly."
Destiny and Alley glanced at each other for a brief moment before returning their attention back to their teacher.
"So, we finalized the rolls," she continued. "The list is stuck on the wall in the hallway, you have five-"
All the students didn't even wait to let the teacher complete, as they all rushed outside, making Mrs. Monica chuckle. Alley and Destiny pushed through the students until they finally faced the white piece of paper with ink on it, with wide eyes as it holds their whole life in it.
Princess Odette (The white swan): Alley Gonzalez.
Odile (The black swan): Destiny Park.
Prince Siegfried: Christopher Williams.
Von Rothbart (The evil sorcerer): Dustin Mark.
Alley didn't even continue reading the list as she gasped. "Oh my God," She turned to look at Destiny who had the same reaction as her. Both of them crashed themselves into a tight hug with giggles.
"I'm so happy for you!" Destiny beamed, hugging her again.
"Thank you. Your role isn't quite easy also." she nodded towards the list.
"I know," she said, flipping her imaginary hair off her shoulder which was tied into a bun.
They both giggled and went back to the class. Their teacher said to Alley to go to the class which was on the ground floor, where she would be always practicing her act from now on, along with Destiny, Christopher, and Dustin.
-
After three hours of practice, Alley and Destiny exited the class with sweat covering their bodies, making them shine slightly.
"But you and Christopher are so perfect together like it's meant to be," Destiny said. They sat on the floor on the hallway, resting themselves. Alley's legs and foot never ached that much before but she was sure happy about it. She loved the feeling like she is achieving something she always dreamed about.
"Can you please shut the hell up," she snapped back playfully. "Christopher and I are never going to happen." She whispered, making sure no one could hear her except her best friend.
Destiny groaned and closed her eyes, slowly massaging her thighs. Soon enough, Christopher and Dustin emerged out of the class, waving at Alley before heading towards the exit. The aching in her foot gradually began to stop, making her hum in relief. She took off her pointe and slipped into her tennis shoes, grabbing her shorts and putting them on before standing up, ready to head towards the huge glass doors.
"I'm leaving, I'll see you tomorrow morning." she waved at Destiny who returned back a low bye. Alley stepped out into the night chilly air. She looked around, searching for her twin brother's car, but it wasn't here yet. shrugging, she sat on the small bench on the sidewalk. She didn't notice that someone was sitting until that person cough slightly, making her jump in place.
Alley turned around, to find a curly hair guy already looking at her with a frown. "You easily get scared," he spoke, his raspy voice made chills run down her spine.
"I-I didn't notice you were sitting there." she stuttered. He only hummed in response. Alley looked and him, at his masculine figure, his chocolate-brown long hair, his face, how he has this strange beauty that no one could ever get tired of admiring him. He suddenly turned his face, to meet his vibrant green eyes, like the evergreen forest, beautiful but scary.
"Like what you see?"
She turned to look at him, pretending to be confused. "What? I wasn't even looking at you."
"Then why did you turn your head when I looked at you?"
"It was just a coincidence." she lied, avoiding eye contact with him.
He smirked and nodded. "You are terrible at lying, did you know that princess Odette?"
She looked at him with wide eyes. "How did you-"
"You're brother is here," He cut her off, pointing in the opposite direction. Surely, front lights shone brightly, making her squint her eyes. Her brother waved at her from inside of the car, with a smile on his face.
She turned to look at him, only to find him already walking away. She stood up and made her way to the car, with a frown on her face.
"Are you okay?" Her brother, Jason, asked.
She only nodded, smiling at him. But Alley wasn't okay at all. throughout the drive back to their apartment, his green eyes kept flashing in her mind and questions kept echoing in her head.
How in the world did he know my role and how did he even know my brother's car? I have never met him before. How did he even know my brother's going to pick me up?
