Today was a pivotal day in our film project. James, the director, had called us to the secret location for a script reading before we began filming next week. The clandestine nature of our meetings was clear from the start, as I walked into a dimly lit room with only three metal chairs. James had been adamant about keeping everything under wraps.I took a seat on one of the cold metal chairs and anxiously waited for the proceedings to begin. The anticipation in the room was palpable as Michael entered, accompanied by James, who held a mysterious file in his hands. The air was thick with secrecy.
"Today I will be giving you two your scripts," James spoke in a hushed tone, his voice laden with the weight of confidentiality. "This is highly classified. You cannot show anyone this script. Understand?"
I nodded solemnly, fully aware of the importance of safeguarding the script's content.
"Here are the scripts for both of you," James said, passing us the paper scripts, the cover page reading:
"The Love Affair By James Cameron"
My heart raced as I turned the page and began reading the first scene. "Wow, this is amazing," I murmured, momentarily breaking the silence in the room.
"I agree," Michael chimed in. "I can't wait to start filming this."
"Well, that's amazing! We start filming on Monday," James confirmed, a hint of excitement in his voice.
As we wrapped up the meeting, Michael caught up with me. "Hey, Karman," he said, catching his breath after running up to me. "Could I get a ride home? Maybe we could practice the script together."
"Of course," I replied with a friendly smile. "Hop in."
I drove him to his house, the excitement about our roles and the script still lingering in the air. "Do you want to come inside?" Michael asked, extending the invitation.
"Yeah," I agreed, stepping out of the car.
He led me into his house, suggesting, "Want a tour?" Just as I was about to accept, my phone buzzed with a message from Kylie, my sister, with an urgent request.
Kylie: Hey, come to my house right now!
Me: Okay, on my way!"I'm so sorry," I apologized to Michael, genuine concern in my voice. "I actually have to leave. There's a family emergency. I'll make it up to you." With that, I hurriedly left Michael's house, knowing that my sister needed me.
As I hurriedly left Michael's house in response to my sister Kylie's urgent message, my heart raced with worry. I knew that if Kylie was reaching out to me with such urgency, something must be terribly wrong. I sped down the familiar streets toward my sister's house, my mind filled with concern.
Kylie's house was only a short drive away, and I arrived in record time. As I rushed to the front door, my heart pounded with anxiety. I flung the door open, calling out, "Kylie! Stormi! I'm here!"
Kylie appeared in the living room, looking frazzled but relieved to see me. She hurried toward me, her eyes filled with concern. "Karman, thank goodness you're here," she said, her voice trembling.
"What happened?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady, my concern growing by the second.
Kylie led me to the next room, where I found Stormi, my adorable four-year-old niece, sitting on the couch, tears streaming down her little face. She clutched her wrist, which was visibly swollen, and her sobs filled the room. "Auntie Karmi!" she cried out between hiccups.
My heart ached at the sight of Stormi in pain. I knelt down beside her and gently pulled her into my arms. "It's okay, sweetie," I cooed, trying to comfort her. "Auntie Karmi's here now. What happened to your wrist?"
Kylie explained, her voice shaky, "Stormi fell while playing in the backyard. She tried to climb the treehouse ladder, and she slipped."
I gently examined Stormi's wrist, trying to be as careful as possible. It was clear that she was in considerable pain, and I could feel the warmth of her tiny body against mine. "We need to take her to the hospital to get this checked out," I said, looking up at Kylie. "But don't worry, Stormi, we'll make sure you're all better soon."
Stormi clung to me as I carefully picked her up, her cries starting to subside as she realized she was in the arms of her beloved Auntie Karmi. Kylie grabbed her purse, and we rushed out of the house, heading for the nearest hospital.
During the car ride, I did my best to comfort Stormi, singing her favorite songs and distracting her from the pain in her wrist. Kylie drove as quickly and safely as she could, clearly worried about her daughter.
At the hospital, we were quickly ushered into the emergency room. The medical staff examined Stormi's wrist, confirming that it was indeed sprained. They assured us that she would be okay with proper care and time. Stormi, still clutching my hand, looked up at me with her tearful eyes and whispered, "Thank you, Auntie Karmi."
I leaned down and kissed her forehead, whispering back, "You're so brave, Stormi. Auntie Karmi is always here for you." In that moment, I realized that family was everything, and I would do anything to protect and care for the ones I loved.
