This is a remake of my old Apocalypse AU from my old book.
I literally have no memory of what I wrote in it anyways, so here we gooo :D

The beginning
The apocalypse started with a virus that attacks the brain of the host (inspo: Chronic Wasting Disease).
Next to reprogramming the entire hardware, it also eat away parts of the brain, causing the "Zombie Walk" and sped up rotting of the host.
It was likely not from a foreign planet or other cities, as the outbreak started in Makuhero City and from there spread to the rest of the galaxy.

The outbreak
A young veterinarian reported to doctors about headaches and immobility in multiple body parts, as well as a sudden loss of appetite for food.
Prescribed with medicine and rest, the vet went back home.
Weeks later, police rushed to his place upon reports of hearing screaming.
What they discovered were nearly lifeless bodies of the vet's wife and children with several bite marks and "flesh" torn off of their body. The vet was killed during arrest after attempting to attack an officer.
The victims were rushed to the hospital and treated there.
A blood test taken from the vet finally revealed the virus and his family was put in quarantine, in hopes it will go away.
Needless to say, despite all available medicine, they could not be saved and adopted the same hostile behaviour as the vet, attacking several doctors and nurses and infecting them.
Soon the entire hospital had to be shut down. After that, the virus kept rapidly spreading through the city.
The virus mutates at an extremely fast rate. All vaccinations that could be developed in such short time were useless.
Makuhero City was overrun by it in less than a month. Undiagnosed travellers passed it onto other planets, including Quatros and several security planets.

Measures
When it was clear police and doctors couldn't contain the virus and zombified citizens, Hero Factory had to step in. All mutated civilians are terminated on the spot, those with a still functioning mind are put in quarantine, but eliminated once they display a hostile behaviour. All eliminated victims are burnt to kill off the virus.
Specialised Hero Units and doctors were sent to Quatros to make sure the virus doesn't destroy the endangered habitat.
Planets in the galaxy went into lockdown to slow down the spread of the virus. People with the symptoms of the virus, including headaches, mobility loss and hostility are immediately sent away to an unnamed planet, specialised for outbreaks and difficult situations of various kinds. The infected ones of Makuhero City are isolated within the Hero Factory.

Known information
"Infected people have made several attempts of escaping the planet, wether it's hijacking a transport ship or simply shutting down our security measures"
- Thresher, head of security of [REDACTED]

"The creatures on Quatros are resilient, but not immune to the virus. We've set up a type of Sanctuary for the ones infected"
- Emily Rho, hero specialised in medicine

"The virus has a harder time taking over full robotic creatures, compared to techno-organic or organic ones. But it's not impossible"
- Julius Nex, Alpha-Team medic

"We have two infected heroes on the team. They're isolated from the rest and each other unless they are absolutely needed for missions"
- Quadal, mission chief assistant of Alpha-Team

"Surge's body has already started the decomposition, but his mind is still intact. Stormer on the other hand shows no symptoms at all. He's being run through various tests to figure out why that's the case."
- Raven Su, lead scientist

Villains
Most villains have recognized the danger of this virus and are currently hiding from the public.
The villain Purge has shown symptoms similar to the virus (such as mobility loss and rotting, but at a slower rate), but wasn't infected himself.
Reporting himself to the Hero Factory, he is currently in quarantine.
Based on his own statements, he has some type of "soul connection" to Surge.
Other than that, no reports of docile but infected villains have come in.
Reported hostile ones have already been terminated on the spot.

Duration
This outbreak has been active for over a year now, with no sight of it ending anytime soon.
The numbers of infected people are stable, but not sinking.
