Chapter of Buttered Pancakes
Derrick👴🏼OldMan💜 is calling..."Hey, Derrick, what's up?" I ask as I fold my clothes answering his call.
"Hey," He paused. "I wanted to ask you a question."
"What question?"
"Can I take you out again?"
I didn't know what to say. I was nervous. I did really like Derrick, but he did fuck up the last date. He made me somewhat insecure by ogling Sonya, but he made up for it by reassuring me that he didn't like her again.
Not that mattered. Derrick was single. He could look at every girl he wanted. But she was bad for him and maybe he was susceptible to it. It's okay if he didn't want me, he could have another girl but Sonya was just not worth it and would hurt him. And I don't want to see him hurt.
But I had a bit of a feeling he wanted me. But sometimes I wasn't sure. I miss social cues sometimes due to my own insecurities, and maybe it was bright as Summer daylight, that he wanted me.
"I really want to make up for everything," He says, "With pancakes and breakfast."
I smiled and blushed through the phone. "How did you know I love pancakes?" I remark.
"Who doesn't?" He asks rhetorically.
"Anyway, pick you up at 10 in the morning, so we can discuss the details, okay."
My super ability was being nervous at all times and ultimately frazzled. I was wearing casual today, nothing special. My favorite red lipstick, mixed with eyeliner, and a Led Zeppelin shirt.
But even still, he was able to look me down and compliment me. "Yo-u look great."
I blushed and gave him a smile to him. "Thanks,"
Nervousness was off the charts. If I didn't know what this was earlier, now I do.
He smirked, "Let's go."
The drive was long and consisted us both exchanging glares from one another. At one point, we were hitting cornfields, and I realized he was taking me out to somewhere special.
"Why you so quiet there?" He asked, "You usually have a lot to say."
"I'm just enjoying the ride," I say, and look at the calmness of the same cornfields and country homes. But some of it irked me because there was no action. It was also scary and afraid. I tensed up a bit.
He gave me a smile of reassurance with his hand out for a bit. "Everything's okay Sar. I'm just taking you a special place,"
Finally, we got there. It was an old diner. Probably about a hour away from our town we lived in. It was cute and cozy. It was very pink and seem retro, like the 60's-70's.
"The amount of Elvis movies, we watched together," He smiles, "I thought you would love it."
I put my arms around him to show him my appreciation. He hugs back.
"Thank you,"
"No worries," He says, "I was an asshole on our last date,"
"Yeah, you should've taken out Sonya out instead," I laugh half-joking.
"She would be on the last list to take out." He says, "If you said no, I would call Keith or Kane," He says jokingly.
"My replacements, you mean?" I ask.
He was about to say something but he bit his tongue.
"Yeah definitely. Keith and Kane's with wigs then."
