Summary:

Shouto bows his head, like a good omega, a Consort Lord who would look after his people, who would look after the Emperor.

The lights from the candles catch a glassy state in his eyes and when he raises his gaze, Katsuki's fingers linger a moment too long at the wings, the tapestry capturing an inherent part of him.

"It's beautiful."

They often hold their breaths, the caged birds. When they look at the skies whether it is the Sun or the Moon they seek, no one could know.

What a silly, little riddle to tell a child.

Shouto has never been able to draw clear lines in the relationship they share. That's a secret he's willing to admit to himself, he knows he's missing something, something that his alpha searches doggedly but can't find.

A stone would start bleeding before Katsuki would ever talk about it but even he cannot hide it. Shouto knows his alpha, he is his omega after all even if Katsuki would rather never let him know, the bond on his neck makes him aware that between their nights together when Katsuki is in the throes of his rut, he stops, brows fixated looking at Shouto, realising, holding back.

Before Shouto can even discern what is wrong, Katsuki banishes that look away.

He can't place it, that thing Katsuki hides from him.

"Off with the fairies again?" and when Shouto blinks, initially a little clueless, Katsuki looks at him with casual suspiciousness, "if something is bothering you, you only need to tell me," and the alpha raises his scent, a protective gaze over the omega and Shouto watches amused.

"What if it were something you would not solve?"

Narrowing his eyes, Katsuki pauses his lunch, "so something is bothering you."

"You could always tell," Shouto teases and Katsuki gives him a flat look but before the alpha can further pursue it, Shouto redirects his attention, "when will you return from Shuura? I've heard it's gotten worse, the warring states."

Katsuki understands the diversion, his scent grows acrid, promising Shouto that they will talk about this again, "they're getting out of hand, measly rats that they are, I'll return once I've consolidated their lot. It may take a few years," he states, looking at Shouto meaningfully, "will you be able to look after in my stead?"

Shouto smiles, "do you doubt me?"

"Is that a question you want me to answer?" Katsuki states noncommittally. He would never trust anyone with his Empire and Shouto is the only one to even graze that line. Something that makes the omega beam in pride.

"You wound me, alpha."

"Do I?" Katsuki questions and that's another intention that Shouto can't set what expression lies there. Katsuki is oddly protective of him, especially where he does not need to be. He leaves the Lord Consort quarters and Shouto knits the tapestry of war, a tradition that most omegas held for their bonded ones away at war. The tapestry that Shouto sews does not have an objective yet, he's been thinking of what he should sew, the first time that he has to sew a tapestry was before their marriage.

Katsuki Bakugou then was the Crown Prince of Sifarish, now its Emperor, and Shouto still doesn't know what it was that separated Shouto from the other omegas that Katsuki chose him at first glance. The more he thinks about it, the less he knows, their wedding had been celebrated in great ceremony, a wedding of pearls, a white wedding with a fateful promise.
