Again, Eric was sitting in his favorite place in the library facing the solid white wall. He chose that spot because he didn't want to be distracted by passersby, and it helped him focus when less objects were in view. He, of course, was testing the theory of focus. And then Eric thought to himself:
Apparently, the more discrete data the eyes sense, the more data they will interlink and more additional discrete data will be active in my memory, which of course are not crucial for the specific thing I want to get done. Closing the eyes will also make the focus less because, apparently, there will be few discrete data in my memory being activated. Thus, the senses are the ones who activate those discrete data, and commonly used discrete data should and must always be active to maximize focus. Similarly, to maximize focus even further, additional interconnections can be activated by viewing related objects or feeding my senses with related ideas, exactly what detectives are doing when studying a crime scene.
Little by little his understanding of the brain processes became clear to him. Therefore, he concluded, the brain was primarily composed of two basic systems, the Automatic and the Standby (awareness and consciousness), which in computer would equate to just AI and Idle. Automatic processes would comprise mostly of the metabolic and reflex processes in humans, such as growth, breathing, heartbeat, temperature, reflexes (involuntary movements such as when a person accidentally touch hot or sharp objects), etc. as well as storing of new discrete data could be considered automatic. Standby system would comprise of awareness, the constant expectation of input from different senses; consciousness, the interpretation of the input and its immediate effect or necessary reaction (common sense); and high-consciousness, the ability to resist or discover new ways to improve established consciousness (decision-making or cognition). Now, his next problem was to figure out equivalents of these processes on a computer system when suddenly Michelle appeared out of nowhere and sat on the opposite chair in front of him. She was smiling broadly locking her eyes with his.
Eric looked at her, a bit surprised. "Hi, you are not with Vittoria?"
"I'm just paying a quick visit to verify the title of the book I saw on the internet... So, where are you now in your... preparation?" she asked breathlessly.
"Oh, I already made a raw diagram to represent some basic processes." Eric opened his notebook, revealing the star diagram he made with scattered labels on it. "It's still in its simplest form for now," he added.
The diagram was very simple for him, but Michelle couldn't find anything sensible. She stood up and transferred, sitting right beside him, as if she was trying to comprehend the diagram. Then she gave Eric a stare, connoting she was demanding some explanation. Eric leveled the notebook and explained to her each of the symbols, and apparently, she was able to absorb the relation of those symbols to computer processes.
The diagram looked like a Star of David with six points and small circles on each. In the middle of the star was another small circle. Each of the six circles was considered as processor to process basic human senses: eyes, ears, mouth (speech), touch, reflex, and common sense. The middle circle was the consciousness processor. Each of the six processors had their individual cache RAM (temporary memory) while the consciousness processor had an Active RAM. Those RAMs (memories) were represented as the spaces inside the star diagram near to their respective processors.
Then Eric added he would name the program Baby Genius, and it would be raised and educated like a human baby. But for Michelle, more conspicuous than the explanation of Eric was the feeling of being next to him. Every so often, their legs and arms brushed each other, sending jolts of sensation to her slender body. As if being in the presence of someone who held a form of mystical power, it made her too weak to fight back and giving her no other choice but to submit. Eric meanwhile felt a different Michelle. He felt a very different person beside him but at the same time a bit familiar, certainly far from the one he knew months ago. Her young, fresh, sweet smell overwhelmed the atmosphere, like being enveloped in a cocoon of soft fragrant silk. Her body heat was a caressing touch, with her smooth exposed neck that could tempt even the most satiated vampire. They both felt those wonderful sensations yet ignoring them for the sake of friendship. And then Michelle spoke in a soft quiet voice.
