Backstory: This is from a show idea that I call The Boarding House. It's about a lady in her mid 40s during the 1980s who owns a boarding house and the residents of the place. Some of those residents include a trans woman, a lesbian teen who was kicked out of her parents' place, and a couple who don't have much money with a baby.
This scene is right after the wife (Olivia) in the couple is hit by her husband (Dallas) because he finds out she has been working as a prostitute so they can make ends meet. The trans woman, Ali, goes off on the husband.
Ali: (mad slowly to angry) How dare you even think about laying a hand on her? That woman right there makes sure your clothes are cleaned, your room is clean, your food is cooked, and your son is alive! She makes money so your family can survive! You called her a whore, a slut, and everything under the sun except for the one thing she really is! A lady. She breathes and thrives to make sure she can keep her son with her. You make money sure, but all you ever spend your money on is cheap booze and scratch offs! She buys the food and pays rent so you are not on the streets! She works the streets so you don't live in them! (Turns to Olivia and speaks calmly) Pack your things dear, you and Matthew will stay with me.
