{Chapter 26}

Anne stood in the doorway of the front door with Alec’s arms wrapped around her waist as they watched their children reunite. Everythings going to be okay, right?” Anne asked her fiancé. “Yeah, I think we will all be alright.” Alec assured Anne, giving her a kiss on the top of her head as they continued to watch Harry and Louis hug each other like their life depended on it.

It took a little bit but the two finally let go of each other so that Harry could hug his mom and shake hands with Alec before they all went inside. Once they were inside Anne told Harry and Louis they could go up to their room to catch up while she  finished a few emails for work and started dinner and Alec finished something he had to do in his home office. The two teens did as told, making their way upstairs together in silence.

The two went into their room with Louis closing the door behind them. Harry did his usual of getting his stuff out of his bag and setting up his desk while Louis just stood in the middle of the room not making a sound. Once Harry set everything up and had run out of things to do he knew it was time to turn his attention to Louis. When Harry turned around the two just stared at each other for a few minutes before Louis broke down crying and apologizing. Harry listened until Louis got so upset that  he couldn’t breathe properly and Harry couldn’t understand what he was saying.

Harry walked the three steps that were between them, grabbed Louis’ face in his hands, and shut him up with a forceful kiss. It only took seconds for Louis to kiss back, all his worry and stress were dropped in an instant. They soon separated but Harry quickly grabbed Louis’ hand to walk them over to the bed to lay down. Harry wrapped his arms around Louis while Louis cuddled as close as he could into Harry’s chest and stayed that way until Louis calmed down.

It took almost twenty minutes for Louis to calm down to the point that he could talk again but Harry didn’t mind waiting. The two started talking about easy topics so as to not get either of them worked up and slowly working into harder topics. First was about Harry’s work and Louis’ school. Louis’ grades had fallen dramatically from straight As to Cs and even Fs in a few classes. Harry asked why they had gone down so low so quickly. Louis admitted to not showing up a lot to classes or when he did show up he didn’t do the work. That moved into why Louis had been getting in trouble in and out of school. Turns out while Louis was ditching class he met and fell into a bad crowd of guys who he started hanging out with all the time, leaving Liam and Niall behind.

Louis soon turned the questioning on Harry. He asked about the guy who Harry was shopping with when they saw each other the month or so before. Harry told Louis about the slump he fell into and how Zayn had taken it upon himself to get Harry out of the tower and distract him. Louis questioned what he needed to be distracted from. Harry decided to answer honestly since Louis had been honest so he admitted that he couldn’t get Louis out of his head and was overworking himself to the point of exhaustion so he didn’t have a chance to think about Louis because he was always doing something to keep him mentally and physically busy.

After a while of talking about everything that happened while they were separated it was finally time for them to talk about the reason why they had separated, the night Anne and Alec told Harry they were going to fight for full custody of him. Neither wanted to talk about it and bring those feelings up but it needed to be talked about. It wasn’t until then when Louis explained that he was only told about Anne and Alec’s plan right before Harry showed up that Harry understood that Louis was just caught in the moment like him, making Harry feel horrible about how he treated Louis that night. Now it was Harry’s turn to cry and apologize to Louis for what he did. Louis, of course, instantly forgave Harry and comforted him until Harry calmed down like Harry had done to him. After Harry calmed down the two made a promise that Louis would start going to his classes, do his school/homework, and go back to being friends with Liam and Niall while Harry would stop overworking himself so much and take better care of his health.

Harry and Louis continued to lay in their bed holding each other close and at some point fell asleep like that. An hour after they fell asleep Anne had finished making a simple dinner for the family that night, salad, spaghetti, and garlic bread. Once she had set the table Anne called for everyone that dinner was done. Alec walked in a few minutes later but Harry and Louis hadn’t come down stairs so she called out to them that dinner was done once again. After a few more minutes Anne decided to walk upstairs to see why the two teens weren’t going downstairs. She gently knocked at the bedroom door before entering their room. Anne thought that maybe they were playing video games and couldn't hear her or that maybe they had music playing. What she didn't expect was to walk into her son and stepson’s room to see them tangled together on the bed with dry tears on both of their faces as they were sleeping.

Anne couldn’t help but take a picture of the two as they, for the second time that day, held on to each other as if they were scared to let go. After taking a few pictures she put her phone back in her pocket then sat on the edge of the bed behind Harry. Anne ran her hand through Harry’s hair and called his name to try to wake him up. It took a few times but she was soon successful as Harry slowly started to open his eyes, blinking away the sleep. When Harry was able to open his eyes all the way he realized that his mom was sitting behind him while he and Louis still had their arms wrapped around one another.

In shock Harry sat up pulling away from Louis as quickly as he could resulting in Louis being startled awake. Harry and Louis quickly tried to come up with a reason that they were lying the way they had been. The two were talking over each other trying to not get in trouble. After a minute of this happening Anne put her hand up to silence them so she could speak. “Boys, it’s okay. It seems like you two worked through your issues?” She questioned to which the two looked at each other before looking back at her and nodding their heads yes. “Then that’s all that matters to me. I want you two to be close to one another, you are going to be step brothers one day. Neither of you have another sibling, as of right now, so you two need to stick together. Don’t be the type of guys that don’t show their emotions or feelings, it's important to have them to have great relationships.” Harry and Louis were relieved to hear Anne say that to them and gathered her in their arms for a hug to show their appreciation for her words. Anne of course hugged the two boys back happy to have kids like them.

After the three separated from their hug Anne told them that dinner was done so they needed to wash up before heading down to the table before all the food got cold. She gave them each a kiss on the head before leaving the room, closing the door behind her. Harry and Louis took a moment to breathe due to almost having heart attacks when they first woke up. “That could have gone really bad. We have to be more careful.” Harry said. Louis nodded in return, agreeing with what Harry said. The two soon got out of bed and went to the bathroom to wash their hands and rinse their faces after looking in the mirror to see dry tear stains covering their cheeks. A few minutes later Harry and Louis were walking down the stairs to join their parents at the table.

It was taking them so long to walk down that Anne and Alec had already made their plates and started eating the food Anne had prepared. Harry and Louis sat down and made their plates before joining their parents’ conversation. Anne and Alec were a little shocked because Harry and Louis used to only talk to each other at the table but both were thrilled and spent dinner talking with their teens about anything they wished. Dinner went smoothly and when it was over the boys did the dishes while the parents enjoyed the end of their wine in the living room together. After Harry and Louis finished they told Anne and Alec they were going upstairs to their room. The family of four shared good nights before they went upstairs to their room for the night.
