Khadijah POV

Why can't I find where she was last at?

I huffed in frustration and kept typing fast on the keyboards punching every area code possible where Vanessa could have been last seen. Just for it to bring me back to square one in my search. She wasn't the only priority I had to look into, as of right now I have some paper works to put in records.

I looked up at the clock behind my work desk, seeing it just hit 12 o'clock in the afternoon. I was nowhere near my break time, I rubbed my temples to ease off some stress I felt increasing every time in my search.

My body did a small jump, startled from the office phone ringing loudly, I pressed the speaker button to hear the caller.

"Cardin speaking" I went back to typing.

"Cardin, this is Chief Matthews speaking. I want you in my office as of right now"

Before I could reply back he hung up.

I took that as my sign to head towards his office and I knocked on his office door. Hearing a faint 'come in' I opened his door and was met with Chief Matthew putting out his cigarette in the ashtray.

"You called me sir"

"Yes Ms. Cardin, I assume you know about the president's escapades?" I nodded

"Well it seems his daring adventures are turning into fatal endings for these women"

So Vanessa isn't alone...

Chief Matthew folded his arms, turning his chair facing the wide window that shows a nice view of scenery.

"I'm getting into a tangent. I called you specifically to talk about the president's oldest son. Because of the president's activities and bad decisions he's been making lately. the pentagon noticed an increase of national security threat"

Oh that's a shocker

It gets worse and worse every damn time I hear the president's receipts. I have no words to say but be fake stunned about it.

How bad can my first day back to work be?

"It's been talked to by me and other officials that the president's oldest son needs to be put on watch."

I blankly stared at Chief Matthews for a good minute. Oh but I was all too curious on who he chose to handle this kind of job.

"Sir, who's the person you chose to keep him safe?"

"Ms. Cardin I was thinking you could fill this position" his chair swiveled around to face me again, sending me a sympathetic smile.

I shouldn't have jinxed myself but no I had to say those words and now I've ended up in this predicament. I slowly clasped my hands together and started playing with my hands as if they were in some kind of thumb of war game. I had multiple thoughts and questions rushing through my head.

It hasn't been long since I came back and now I'm assigned to babysit?! Couldn't they have grabbed any bodyguards that were trained for this? Why me?

There has to be more to what he's telling me

"Sir with all due respect, I don't think I'm the match for this, aren't there bodyguards trained for this type?" I was feeling more dumbfounded as we kept speaking on the matter.

"Ms. Cardin, the reason why I specifically chose you for this then any trained guard we have is because of your fighting tactics and mindset, they were different from others I've seen. This mission isn't going to be easy on your part but you already know that nothing is easy for you, remember the Mauve project."
