The festivities were in full swing. The palace looked marvelous. His mother remarked this ball could be the most grandest occasion yet. The rulers of all the kingdoms in the country were invited as well as from lands of abroad. The guest list was the most extensive one and could probably make history. He felt that it was quite impressive how he managed to invite even the heiress of Torukaz to grace the occasion. Their empire rivaled Salem, yet the heiress Reagan allowed herself to forget their hostility for the occasion.

Lord Nidal had spotted her as he sat in a balcony overlooking the ballroom. He wanted to talk to her, try to establish a stronger friendship between their territories. But all through the night he noticed her attention was hooked on the Rajkumari of Bharama. Sure, she was charming and pretty, but she came from a smaller territory as far as he knew. Why was the heiress of such a large land dancing with only her.

"I need a background check on her." He muttered. His head knight, Kaleigh, tilted his head in confusion. "On who?" He asked.

"On Rajkumari Bela." Nidal motioned to her form with his champagne glass. "I need a full report by tomorrow, could you do that?"

"Alright." He turned towards the door. "But now you must give your speech. I'll ring the bell." He walked out, leaving the lord alone.

This was the most boring part of the night, Nidal mused. But sadly, it cannot be skipped. It was about time he showed up to his own ball anyway. The bell rang through his thoughts. The door would be open. He should hurry up. He drowned his glass and quickly made his way downstairs. He got on the stage at the centre of the room and got his glass refilled with more champagne.

Watching the room fill, he took a thoughtful sip out of his cup. Kaleigh placed a hand on his shoulder. "You're gonna get drunk." He lowly whispered in his ear. With the man so close, Nidal felt his cheeks flare. He swatted his knight's  face away in embarrassment.

"I'll be fine."

He had to take another sip to calm himself down. Maybe he was right, he should slow down on the alcohol. He did have a speech to announce to a hall full of people. And compromising thoughts about his chief knight wouldn't be ideal to run through his brain as he did so.
