When I was younger I thought I was alone.

I hadn't many friends, and I was pretty introverted.

I remembered a time when a small boy stood by me, my partner in crime; so to speak.

His name was Ethan and he was my brother...more than my brother my friend.

He was born one year before me.

When I was little I didn't have any friends and I wasn't very a very social butterfly. But he was always there for me.

I remember a time when my life was filled with joy and happiness. Until the day my brother got a nosebleed.

I thought nothing of it (I was eight what do you expect).

Ethan wiped the blood from his nose and looked at me. His face turned white and his eyes rolled into the back of his head.

He fell backwards...my mother rushed to him and we sped to the hospital.

About six hours later the doctor pulled my mom and dad aside.

I looked at my brother as he lay cold and lifeless on the bed, he was shaky and small...

My mother suddenly burst into tears and my father embraced her.

I just wanted to know what was going on...a few minutes later the doctor came to me, crouched next to me, and proceeded to tell me what the hell was going on.

He told me my older brother was very sick.

Very sick...I thought they meant the kind of sick a stomach ache or a migraine.

No! It was nothing like that...

"You mean like the flu", I asked the doctor, tilting my head a bit to the right. "No sweetie", my mother uttered to me, in a hushed tone.

I was so confused. They doctor later informed me on my brothers ailment.

Leukemia ...my brother had leukemia.

He told me the symptoms... I sill remember them: fatigue, weight loss, frequent infections, bruising or bleeding easily, ect.

I didn't understand it at the time but in four short years I would be alone...
