"Night changes"

Hands in his pockets, Zenin Toji walked through the illuminated and loud streets, looking down and trying to avoid any contact with people. It was particularly crowded that night, but despite all the warm smiles and the joyful atmosphere at the moment Toji was still cold. He sighed trying to not lose focus. He had to go to the hotel, he was tired, and his hands were bloody. He just killed someone.

The person begged for their life, but he did it anyway. For money. The worst part is that he wasn't feeling any regret, he didn't feel bad at all for this person. He would enter his hotel, shower and comfortably lie down on the soft mattress. Killing people paid well indeed.

Though he would have nightmares, he didn't sleep well at night and not even because of his victims. But he would relive the horrible moments he spent in the Zenin household again and again. It kept him from sleeping, and he hated that they still had so much power over him even after he left. He killed people in hopes to find relief, the fights were amusing sometimes, but it's not what he's looking for, something is missing. When he had his first time with a random eldery woman who offered to give him a room for the night, it felt nice but something was still missing. Even when he shot someone in the head, imagining it was his dad, or reminding himself he did it for money, Toji could never find peace.

Had the universe abandoned him when his family did too? Was he cursed? Why couldn't he feel an ounce of positive emotions—

"Hmm it smells so nice let's have dinner here tonight dear!" he heard a woman's voice, for no reason it caught his attention and he raised his head to be faced with a shiny logo. He wrinkled his eyes and on the restaurant's window saw a plastered paper. « New Year's Eve special offer! »It looked good indeed. And it did smell good too.

« I should eat there someday... » he thought, his eyes then snapped opened when he suddenly remembered that if today was New Year's Eve... it was also his birthday. What an awful reminder that a witch gave birth to him on this day 20 years ago now. At least now he could legally drink alcohol. He didn't know if it was a blessing or a curse to have been born. He hated his life.

Toji looked down the restaurant window and saw her waving at him, as usual with her warm smile. He gulped suddenly feeling a sort of warmth envelopping his body. He stayed still before hesitantly waving back at her. She invited him inside with a head sign so he put his hands in his pockets and finally walked in. He sighed, feeling the nice temperature of the restaurant and the amazing smell.

"Toji!" She called him as he came to sit down in front of her. "They have a New Year's Eve special offer, isn't it great!" she excitedly said as he scoffed smiling at her reaction.

"Hm, let's order." He nodded.

"Oh I already did of course." She informed him proud of herself, Toji looked at her beautiful face lost in his minds, she was truly mesmerizing in his eyes, so much that he wanted to display her beauty to the whole world but also keep her to himself. "Toji are you listening?" She raised an eyebrow when she noticed he has been staring at her with no reaction.

"Hm? Yea." he cleared his throat.

"Really, what did I say?"

"That... you wanted to try cow-girl?" She gasped, throwing the table's tissue at him, he laughed out loud as she bit her lip looking around.

"I did not say that!"

"You did, yesterday while I was—"

"It was a joke! Don't say this kind of thing out loud in public.." she slightly blushed her eyes wandering around the room to see if anyone heard it. He scoffed, reaching for her hand on the table.

"Alright, come here." He told her, she looked back at him to see he was intensely staring at her. She slightly bit her lower lip when she saw his eyes going down to her lips, she still leaned in as he did the same stroking her cheek.

Her lips were so soft, he felt heavenly everytime he was kissing her. He felt complete. She pecked him on the lips to end their kiss and cleared her throat.

"It's coming." she said.

"What is coming?" he asked, confused. She did a head sign pointing to their left, so he turned his face, his eyes shot open when he saw a cake with fizzy candles on it. "Kei what the fuck—"

"Happy birthday Toji." She smiled at him as the waitress put down the cake on the table before her and her colleagues as well as Kei applauded. He was dumbfounded was an understatement, yet again he had forgot it was his birthday today. It wasn't supposed to be happy, but she made it. Toji couldn't hold back a smile that he hid by pinching his nose and lowering his head.

"Kei..."

"Blow the candles and make a wish!" she excitedly said.

« Lord if you exist somewhere protect this blessed woman at all costs... She deserves the world... give me the power to give it to her. »

He cleared his throat waving the waiters off and when they were gone he blew his candles all at once. She giggled watching him do so. He never imagined doing this if he was being honest, ever.

"What was your wish?" she smiled.

"For you to be safe... and to have anything you wish for." he answered.

"Toji if you say it it's not going to happen!"

"But you asked.." he sighed. "I will make it happen anyways."

She took his hand that was on the table to intertwine their fingers. "I love you Toji, you're sweet but you should have made a wish for yourself not for me.."

He tightened his grip around hers as his heart started racing for no reason. "All I want is to see you smile Kei, you're my entire world." he genuinely said staring into her soul. She just didn't realize how much better she made him, and his life. She literally shifted his whole universe, and now he would be looking forward to celebrating his birthday with her every year.
