I watch Eva's car as it speeds out of her driveway, three other cars going after her. She is probably going to my house and then search every other place I could possibly be at. Too bad she isn't expecting me to sit in my car in front of her house.
I tap my fingers on the small flash drive and hum, watching my men execute the guards near the gate silently. Only his personal bodyguard, Ana, is left.
Eva will most definitely send fifteen other men to her precious little lamb. So, I have to work quick.
Once the car is parked inside, I get out.
"If you fucking touch him, I will hunt you down and kill you with my bare hands." Ana is shouting on her knees, struggling against the hold of three men, as they try to subdue her.
"Bold of you to assume you are getting out of here alive." I chuckle, moving past her without slowing down. "Don't kill her just yet."
We might need her if Sebastian proves to be difficult.
"Yes, sir."
I walk through the open door, casting a quick glance at the workers on their knees near the kitchen door, before moving to the living room.
Sebastian is sitting on the couch with his hands gripping the cushions and his body shaking slightly as two of my men stand over him with guns in their hands. He jumps when I enter, his eyes shooting up to me and widening even further.
"Sebastian," I smile. "We don't have much time, but we need to talk."
"W-What's going on?" He asks in a shaky voice, his eyes flitting to the guns nervously.
"Please guys, put the guns away. I am just here for a talk with my son."
They do as I say while I make myself comfortable on the chair in front of Sebastian. He watches my every movement with wary, glossed over eyes. But there's something different about him, too. I can't put my finger on it.
"How is your arm?"
"Better. Thank you."
"Always so polite." I tilt my head, still trying to figure out the difference between this Sebastian and the one from three months ago as I stare right into his lavender eyes that are exactly like his mother's.
I haven't looked into those eyes in a long time.
And it clicks. He's looking straight into my eyes and not digging a hole in the ground with his eyes like he used to. No hesitation. No fear. And more confident than I have ever seen him.
I smile, pleasantly surprised. "You're different. What happened? The bullet knocked all of the weakness outta ya?"
"Eva happened." He answers, shoving his shaking hands under his legs. He may be scared, but he's trying to hide it and I appreciate the effort, however weak it may be.
"She is certainly responsible for a lot regarding you."
He frowns. "What does that mean?"
Instead of answering, I ask another question. "What do you know about your arranged marriage with Eva?"
"Well, I know you guys made the deal to stop the war between us and the Russians."
"Not true, exactly. I have no issue fighting those scumbags till the day I die." I scoff. "In fact, it'd be an honor. But, Eva wanted to expand her business to America." I look him straight in the eye. "So, she blackmailed me."
His eyes widen. "She did?"
"She threatened to leak an incriminating video of me, if I didn't give her what she wanted. And what she wanted was power." I gesture to one of my men to get me a laptop, and he scurries away. "That's all people like her— people like us," I emphasize on the last word, watching the defiance flash through his eyes. "Ever really want."
