I could hear Emma’s sobs through the door and I sat down on her door step so confused and lost. I could feel an empty ache in my heart and the longing for it to be complete and the girl was behind the door. I wanted to hug Emma, and I wanted her to stop crying and I wanted to know why Kaithlyn was mad at me. I have been trying to find her for so long and now she hates me.
I sat there waiting for her to open up the door again.
Two hours later
The door opened and I looked up to see a woman, she had Emma’s beautiful brown hair and warm eyes. She looked at me as she closed the door. She looked older than Emma and slightly plumper. Her eyes had an aged look you could call it and she smiled sadly at me.
“Waiting out for Emma?”
I nodded.
“What did you do?” She asked sitting next to me on the door step.
I looked off in a distance as I whispered “I’m not sure,”
She sat there next to me for a long time. “Take care of Emma, she isn’t like other girls,” Then she walked off to her car and smiled a sad smile towards me.
I felt my heart burn as I wondered.
Why was I still here?
Waiting for this girl whom I didn’t care about.
I moved a bit and took a peek into the window, Sitting from the front steps to see a bit of Kaithlyn’s blond hair, as she moved quickly away. The sun was slowly falling and I texted my mom to tell her I’ll be late.
I heard Emma yell. “Get off the doorsteps or I’m calling the police,”
I looked at the door pleadingly. “Please let me talk to Kaithlyn,” My voice broke. And I felt tears slowly fall from my face. I hastily wiped them away but they kept pouring and I felt the ache of losing her. There wasn’t a reply on the other end. “Tell her I love her and I want to marry her, I’m tired of waiting and I don’t care. I don’t care that she’s pregnant; I don’t care about her past. I love her,”
The door opened and Kaithlyn stood there. Her hand resting on her slightly swollen stomach, She saw my tears and I hated that she saw me like this. She sat down on the steps so far away from me and used her delicate frail fingers to wipe a tear from my cheek. “I love you to,” She whispered. I looked at her eyes, inhaling her scent of soft vanilla soap. Her eyes were red and She hugged me. I hugged her back feeling more complete than ever.
Feeling like I was me again.
I inhaled her hair, Jasmine flowers and touched her soft golden locks of hair. She pulled away and her lips met mine. “I’m sorry,” She whispered.
I hugged her and whispered into her hair. “It’s alright,” I held on to her and I felt her tears soak up my shirt.
“It isn’t,” She whispered, “We both know that, what would your mother say?”
“It wasn’t your fault; it was all a mistake,” I whispered and hugged her.
We held each other for so long. I never wanted to let go. I’ve lost my love once in my life I wouldn’t let her go away again.
“It was all a mistake,” She whispered, but the words on her lips felt oddly like a lie.
