chapter 5

It has been 5 weeks since that night, and Sand continued to live his life as normally as possible. Well as normal as one could, trying to dodge and not be seen by someone in particular. His entire routine and schedule had been thrown off. All because he didnt want to see Ray or his group of fucked up friends. But he would rather be inconvenienced than have to spend another moment watching Ray disregard his feelings.

Life was beginning to be mundane again for Sand. He went to work, went to class, and kept himself busy with as many part time jobs and gigs as he could. He needed to keep busy so he wouldn't think of him.

So he wouldn't miss him.

Which is why seeing Mew standing next to his motorcycle caught him off guard. He let out a deep breath, exasperated by the asshole who was obviously waiting for him.

Sand ignored Mew reaching for his helmet and mounting his bike

"Sand" Mew spoke tentatively. "Please just hear me out," he continued.

Sand turned to glare at Mew, still not uttering a word as he turned the key in the ignition.

Mew hesitated but continued. "Sand please just give me 5 minutes... just 5 minutes and I'll leave. I promise."

Sand sighed. He honestly has nothing against Ray or his friends anymore but that didn't mean he wanted to be dragged into whatever mess Mew was about to include him in.

Sand rolled his eyes, turning off the ignition and getting off of his bike.

"5 minutes and that's it." Sand answered.

Mew looked relieved.

"The time starts now asshole." Sand scoffed.

"Ok ok ... I don't know where to start really and I don't know what happened between you and Ray but let me get straight to the point. He's not doing well."

"Hmmmm." Sand responded, crossing his arms across his chest.

"Sand I'm sorry.. for whatever Ray did I'm sorry, but can you please just talk to him?" Mew begged.

Sands' anger began to rise. Seeing Mew standing in front of him begging him to speak to the person who he didn't want to see was infuriating. Mew was the one Ray wanted so why was he here asking him for something so unreasonable.

"Look, Ray didn't do anything, so if he's feeling guilty about something you can let him know he can stop. I'm fine, but I'm not speaking to him again. In fact, why are you even here, aren't you his best friend? I'm sure Ray would prefer your help with whatever he's going through anyway" Sand said matter of factly.

"Sand, I know you think Ray loves me...I knew that too sorta, but I can't give back those feelings to Ray and he already knows this. Ray understands we can only be just friends, he's accepted it." Mew responded.

Sand wasn't shocked at this revelation, he knew Mew didn't love Ray back but that didn't matter, Ray was the one who couldn't let go of his unrequited love.

"That has nothing to do with me, that's between you and him." Sand responded. "Look, I don't have time to be in the middle of whatever love quarrel you guys have going on," Sand said, getting ready to leave again.

"SAND!" Mew shouted, moving forward and grabbing on to his forearm stopping him from leaving .

"I'm telling you that Ray isn't doing good. And it's not just the drinking, he's depressed, and angry all the time. He doesn't eat, sleep or go to class anymore."

"That's not my problem" Sand answered, his chest feeling uneasy at Mew's words.

"Sand you're not understanding me," Mew started again. "Ever since you disappeared Ray has been drinking non-stop, he's completely disregarding his fucken life. I've tried so hard to get him to talk to me, to stop drinking, but he doesn't even tell me what's wrong." Mew continued out of breath.

"It wasn't until last night, he got plastered at YOLO and I went to pick him up, but all he would say was Sand . He kept shouting your name asking Yo to call you. He just kept saying over and over again how you were gone. Sand, I don't know what to do, but I'm scared. I've never seen him like this before either." Mew finished.

Sand took a moment trying to understand what he had just heard. That feeling in his chest he tried so hard to push down was rising up again. But Sand couldn't let himself be swept away by the hurricane that was Ray.

"Mew, I don't know what to tell you. But there's nothing I can do for Ray." Sand responded.

"Please Sand, please just come with me to go see him, please I promise I will never talk or bother you again, and if you really don't want to see Ray afterwards, I'll make sure he doesn't either but I'm begging you to please just come with me. All I'm asking for is some help to talk some sense into him."

The tone in Mew's voice moved him a bit. Sand didn't want to see Ray, he had worked so hard making sure to avoid places he frequented, but he hesitated, his heart was screaming for him to go.

So much for "just tonight." Sand thought to himself. And just as time and time had proven once again, when it came to Ray, Sand was not able to resist him. He'd finally gotten to a point where he could wake up in the morning without the feeling of dread and loneliness, but like a moth to a flame, Sand kept getting pulled towards the blackhole that was Ray.

"Let's go then" Sand sighed. Relief was visible on Mews face.

"Thank you."
