Emily's POV:

I woke up in my bed feeling like crap. My throat was sore and my eyes felt heavy, along with the fact that the minute I tried to utter a sound, none came out, plus it hurt just to try.

I jumped out of bed frantically and went to look for my mom. A sore throat could be disastrous for a singer. I found her in the bathroom, brushing her teeth, getting ready for work. She spotted me near the door and gave me a good morning kiss. I shook my head and motioned to my silent mouth. She nodded and smiled, understanding my predicament and raided the supply closet for any medicine that can help me.

I stood there voiceless, cursing myself for taking that freezing swim yesterday that I knew I would regret. Now, I had a sore throat that will probably affect me for a couple of days or if the cold loves me, a week. I swallowed a pill from the medicine bottle my mom gave me and went back to my room to prepare for school.

I was about to leave the house when I felt a buzz from my phone. I slipped it out from my pocket and clicked open the recent message.

Hey! can I hang out at your house later? I can bring Cheetos ;-) -A

I smiled and replied cheerfully a yes. If Cheetos was taking part in this, it's a total yes for me! I slipped my phone back into my pocket and got into my car.

My car wasn't a "hot ride" unlike Aaron's, but it's like a second home for me, with my favorite pillows, a hidden stash of Cheetos in the trunk and my favorite play list repeatedly being played every time. Don't get me wrong, it's just that I preferred comfort than those mega mansions that celebs own. Picky me.

I entered the school feeling thrilled. I was meeting my singing teacher later so she can confirm my participation in the national singing competition. I was so pumped up for this years competition. It was my chance to get inside the performing business.

I went happily through my classes, daydreaming about a singer's life until the bell of the last class rang. I grabbed my bag and skipped blissfully to my locker.

"Hey babe." A voice whispered in my ear. I shrieked and dropped my books.

"Ouch." a voice whined as a book dropped on their foot. I fumed as I saw Han's smug face in front of mine. How much I wished to drop another book on his foot.

"First of all Hans, I am not your "babe." I did air quotations. "Plus, I will not go out will you!"

Hans smirked and grabbed my hand suddenly. "I just want a chance Emily." He whispered, looking at me with those puppy dog eyes, that made all the girls from Willfred High melt but not this girl.

I tore my hand from his and whispered back, cursing the fact that I had a cold and couldn't go a tone high.

"Don't touch me!"

I gave him a final glare and I turned my back on him, feeling the stares from other people including Hans. I grabbed the stuff I needed for singing and walked past Hans without another glance.

I reached the singing room without another commotion and entered in feeling safe. I breathed a sigh of relief and waited for my singing teacher, Ms. Lolly, a funny name. I unpacked my song books and waited for her. A few minuets passed, when a flustered woman entered the class room, carrying a mountain load of books.

I jumped up from my seat and helped her carry the books to the teacher's table.

"Thanks Emily. I had consecutive classes today plus a meeting with the principle." She explained, wearily.

"Plus the fact that he was wearing a bow tie. Have a mentioned how much I hate bow ties?" She continued. I chucked and marveled at the like able personality of my teacher. She was one of the reasons why I  learned to love singing.
