{No One's Pov}
The Avengers mission was clear. Raid a base and gather information, and try not to make a noticeable mess. Captain America, Steve, had divided the group up during his brief on the way to their location. The pairing consisted of Tony and Steve, Hawkeye and Wanda and lastly, Natasha and Ember. Bruce decides to stay on the ship, not wanting to get involved unless necessary.
Everyone split off into their pairs, making their own way into the base.
Ember walked in front of Natasha, her powers lighting the dark halls. Natasha had a small smile on her face as she walked behind the brunette, watching her powers in awe as a flame danced in the palm of her hand. The pair moved swiftly, getting rid of any guard's that stood in their way.
They made their way deeper into the base as Ember spoke, finally breaking the silence, and some of the concentration. "So, how far into this base do we have to go, and how many people do we have to go through before we find that data room?"
"You need to work on your patience." Natasha answered as she continued walking.
Ember laughed lightly, "Oh come on, engage in a conversation."
"Fine, I'm surprised that you can control your powers so well." Nat answered with the first thing that came to mind as she casually took another guard down.
Ember smiled lightly, still fighting alongside Nat as she did. "Well, thank you. I worked hard to control them."
"You really do like to burn them, huh?" Natasha said as she stepped over a guard who had their arms burnt.
"Hey, it gets them to drop their weapons, don't criticise the method if it works." Ember responded with a shrug.
Natasha was just about to respond when the sudden sound of a gunshot echoed through the halls, a guard from the ground managed to get to a gun, shooting straight at Ember.
Ember immediately felt a pain shoot through her abdomen, stumbling back slightly. Natasha immediately turned her head to where the sound came from, not realising it had actually hit Ember.
Natasha rushed to the guard, disarming him again before knocking him out. She turned to Ember who stood against the wall, her hand on the wound.
"Good thing he missed..." Natasha said as she came back over to Ember, now seeing her hand on her side. "Shit. Ember, why didn't you tell me you were hit!"
"I'll be fine. It's going to take more than a bullet to stop me." Ember smiled as best as she could before pushing herself off of the wall to stand.
"You're not fine." Natasha insisted, slightly mad that the woman really believe she was fine. Natasha was quick to put her arm around Ember's waist to support her as she spoke. "We're going back to the quinjet."
Ember shook her head. "The mission..."
"The mission doesn't matter. You're compromised." Natasha said blankly as she walked back the way they came, trying to find the nearest exit.
"I can still fight... I have my powers." Ember insisted, still holding her side.
Natasha stopped walking, looking to Ember seriously as she spoke. "Use your powers right now. If you can use them without struggling, we'll continue."
Ember shrugged, it should be easy enough. Ember held her hand out, her flame flickering as she did so.
"See, we're leaving." Natasha said firmly as they continued to leave.
They finally got out of the building, Natasha moving quickly back to the jet, arriving there at the same time as the rest.
"What happened?" Tony asked as Natasha sat Ember down.
Natasha looked to Tony, "She was obviously shot."
Tony held his hands up in surrender. "Okay, calm down."
"I'm fine." Ember stated as Tony and Clint got ready to leave.
Natasha looked at Ember, "We've already talked about this. You're shot and we are leaving."
With that, everyone got ready to leave. The quinjet soon took off. On the way home Natasha was cleaning out her weapons to pass the time before she stopped, looking over to Ember as she heard her grunting, still in pain. That's when she realised how much she cared for Ember. Her feelings wanted more than a friendship. Natasha immediately knew that she wouldn't admit that to anyone. She didn't need a relationship, she couldn't worry about someone else...
Natasha looked back up to Ember, watching her carefully as Wanda tried to distract her from the pain.
...Although she did. She worried so much it almost hurt her heart.
