CHAPTER FOUR. the two were nervous.
ben and cordelia have a chat
about her odd behavior.
she runs into someone
while reflecting in the woods
Cordelia hasn't been herself lately. Her mind wasn't in the right place. She was constantly distracted, staring off into the distance. Such a talkative person reduced to silence, keeping to herself more.
Audrey was the first to notice.
Cheer practice the next day was tense. Audrey being rougher on the girls, punishing them all for the base's actions. She hadn't taken their running off, endangering her best friend's life, lightly. It wasn't even just that; it's the fact they abandoned their post. They're supposed to stay put.
Cordelia, who's usually so cheery and prepared to do the routine, was distracted. She kept zoning out mid-routine. She continued her stunts with her body on autopilot, but the energy wasn't there. It was like she was dead.
Audrey assumed that maybe she needed a day off cheer after a scare like the one a few days prior, cursing at herself for not offering it earlier.
Cordelia assured her it was okay. Audrey did have a lot on her plate; it's a shock she even had time to continue making new routines and keep her constant attendance with cheer. And any other day, no matter how terrible she'd been feeling, she would decline the offer.
