Chapter 8: Not him!

The tears streamed down my face as I stood frozen, watching the scene before me. I wanted to scream, to confront Alex, to demand answers, but my legs betrayed me. Instead, I turned and bolted out of the café, my heart pounding in my chest. I didn't know where I was going—I just needed to get away. Away from the pain, away from the betrayal, away from everything.

I kept running, the world around me a blur of colors and sounds. My mind was in turmoil, and I didn't even notice when I ended up in the middle of the road. As I came to a stop, I turned my head and saw it—a truck barreling down the street, headed straight for me. Time seemed to slow down, and in that moment, I felt a strange sense of calm. **Maybe this is how it ends,** I thought, accepting my fate.

But just as I braced myself for the impact, something hit me from the side, knocking me out of the truck's path. I landed hard on the pavement, the breath knocked out of me, and when I looked up, I saw Kai's face, his expression one of pure fear and desperation.

**Kai?**

**Kai's POV**

I saw Jade's face crumble as she watched Alex kiss that guy. My heart sank—I could feel her pain, and it made me feel sick. She suddenly bolted from the café without a word, and I knew she was shattered. I quickly paid for the drinks and ran after her, desperate to catch up. I couldn't lose her, not like this.

When I finally spotted her, she was standing in the middle of the road, oblivious to the truck speeding toward her. Panic seized me, and I sprinted toward her with everything I had. She wasn't moving. She wasn't even trying to save herself. **I can't let her die.** I lunged forward, shoving her out of the truck's path just in time. If I let her die, everything would fall apart, and he would never trust me again.

**Jade's POV**

I opened my eyes, but everything was blurry. My mind was a whirl of confusion and heartbreak. **How could someone I loved so deeply betray me like this?** The thought repeated in my head until the darkness pulled me under, and I passed out.

**Kai's POV**

No, no, no, no, NO! This can't be happening. I cradled her limp body in my arms, terror coursing through me. I couldn't let anything happen to her—not now, not ever. I rushed her to the nearest hospital, my mind racing as I paced the waiting area. My legs were shaking uncontrollably, and all I could think about was the nightmare scenario that would unfold if he found out. Jade had to be okay—she just had to be.

The doctor finally emerged, and I rushed over, my voice trembling. "What happened, doctor? She's okay, right? Is it something serious?" I was so panicked that I didn't even realize my voice had started to crack.

The doctor spoke calmly, trying to soothe my fears. "You don't have to panic, sir. She fainted from shock. She just needs some rest, nutritious food, and proper hydration. She'll be fine."A wave of relief washed over me. She was going to be okay. But my relief was short-lived.

**Author's POV**

Kai was grateful that Jade wasn't seriously hurt. After ensuring she was settled in, he decided to get her something to eat for when she woke up. He walked to a nearby convenience store, unsure of what she liked, so he grabbed a variety of items he hoped would appeal to her. As he made his way back to the hospital, he noticed a car parked outside that made his heart skip a beat. He knew that car too well.

His worst fears were confirmed when he checked the license plate—it was the car he dreaded seeing. He broke into a run, heading straight for Jade's room. The sight that greeted him made his blood run cold. Two men, armed and stern-faced, stood guard outside her door but let him pass without a word.

Inside the room, an old man dressed in black sat beside Jade, his eyes fixed on her face. The atmosphere was heavy, and Kai felt a shiver run down his spine. This was the last thing he wanted.

His voice was barely above a whisper as he addressed the man. "Why are you here... Dad?"
