Agathokakological (adjective)
composed of both good and evil

act one

I wake up by Madison yelling at everyone to wake up so we can start getting ready to leave.
I open my eyes and blink a few times to situate myself.
Once I realise I'm not in my own bedroom and the memories of yesterday come flooding back to me I become aware of the arm that's draped around my waist.
I shuffle slightly to look at Chris who is laying quite close behind me while he's holding onto me.
"Chris, wake up." I tell him as I nudge him carefully.
"Madison told us to get up."
He groans and retracts his arm before he opens his eyes.
"Good morning." He smiles sleepily.
I smile at him in response before I get up and get myself ready.
I put on the same clothes I was wearing yesterday and make my way downstairs to have some quick breakfast together with everyone else.
"Shit." I hear Travis say from the living room.
Everyone goes up to him to find him staring out the window.
Before anyone can ask him what's going on we hear a voice booming through a speaker from outside.
"Citizens! We are the national guard and we're here to set up a perimeter to protect you."
Everyone stares at each other, unsure of what to do but Travis goes outside.
"Stay inside." Madison tells us hastily before she follows him together with Liza and Daniel.
I throw a worried expression to Chris who walks over to me and puts an arm around my shoulder as I hug myself.

act two

A few minutes later they all come back inside and we look at them questioning.
"They're implementing a few rules to keep us all safe. Each person needs to go register and gets rations of food and water that we need to pick up every day. There's also a curfew from eight AM to eight PM." Travis explains but everyone stays quiet.
"So we're not leaving?" Alicia asks.
"No one can leave. Besides, I think it's safer to stay here with them." Madison tells us.
Eventually I find myself in a long line, waiting to put my name on a list that will get me my rations.
"What's your name miss?" The soldier asks me.
"Uh... Y/n." I answer.
"Age?" He asks as he writes down what I just told him.
"seventeen." I say hesitantly.
I look around anxiously but I feel myself calm down when I catch Nick looking at me, waiting for me to finish.
"Where are you staying?" The soldier asks.
"uh..." I stammer, unsure of the exact address.
"What family are you staying with?" The soldier asks me with a confused and unamused expression.
"I'm not... I'm not sure." I stammer as I try to rake my brain to remember their last name.
I'm pretty sure they never even told me their last name.
I fidget anxiously with my hands like I have been doing more and more often but before things can get any worse I hear Nick speak up.
"Clark. She's staying with the Clark family at four, five, two Yellowstone street." He answers the soldier's question before giving me a reassuring smile.
He must have ran over here when he saw me hesitantly looking around.
The soldier looks back and forth between Nick and his paper but eventually writes everything down and gestures for me to leave.
"Thank you." I chuckle half-heartedly.
"No problem." Nick shrugs.
"Nicholas Clark huh?" I say teasingly.
"The one and only." He replies smugly, gaining a small laugh from me.

act three

I spend the rest of the day with Alicia, sitting in her room and listening to music.
"Do you have a boyfriend?" She asks me.
I laugh softly and shake my head.
"No, I've never had one. You?"
"Yeah... He got sick." She says as she hangs her head.
"I'm sorry. Were you guys serious?" I ask her.
"Not really. We had only been dating for like two weeks." She replies.
We stay quiet for a moment until she speaks up again.
"What about you and Chris?" She asks with a smirk.
I chuckle again.
"I literally just met him yesterday. But yeah, he's nice." I tell her and she seems content enough with my answer.
I hesitate but decide to ask her anyway since it's been on my mind since this conversation started.
"What about Nick?"
"What about Nick?" She repeats, looking at me with a questioning expression.
"Does he, you know, have a girlfriend?" I ask shyly.
Alicia bursts out laughing.
"Oh my god you have a crush on my brother." She laughs.
"Wha- No!" I defend myself while I try to hide my smile and blushing cheeks.
"No, he doesn't." She replies eventually.
"He's not exactly boyfriend material." She adds.
I frown so she elaborates.
"He's an addict. Mom and I are trying to wean him off now because who knows where you can find oxy when the world ends." She rolls her eyes.
I stay quiet, deep in thought until Madison walks in and pulls me back to earth.
"Girls, we're having dinner. Will you come down?" She asks.
