Aliza

13 Years Later

I sat there in my school lunch table... Nearly 13 crappy years of my life and not a single friend made.... At least Grandma was tolerable... I was sketching in my school notebook... Drawing pictures of butterflies and hearts... It was a cycle I tell you.... Go to school... Go home... Talk to Grandma... Sneak out... Come back... Sleep.... Same things everyday... Other people threw me into that crowd of people... One of those girls who sees themselves as, "not like other girls" or whatever... Truth being that... I guess I just didn't really care if I was like them... They were jerks anyways... Why should I fall into the things my peers fall into?... Is it not better to be my own person?...

Doesn't help everyone sees me as a weirdo.... When I was just a little girl my mom... She... Uhm... She left this world... I don't know why... If she couldn't bear raising a child, if some awful feeling pulled at her internally... Or if... Ugh... I don't know... I just know that it's just me against the world now....

I stepped out of school after finishing the day, dawning my pink jacket as I walked down the steps into the city... Life might've been redundant and boring but... At least Ebott was nice... The bustling city somehow managed to look beautiful with the combine nature scenery... Don't ask me how they pulled that off... I grabbed my backpack by its straps and walked through the city, on my way back to Grandmas house....

A fluorescent white butterfly fluttered over me, I smiled as it flew by my face and then away... I always felt a strong connection to the butterflies... They're beautiful creatures......

I reached Grandmas house, running off to my room and putting my bag down and sitting on my bed... Taking my locket out and looking at it... It was the only thing I had to remember my mother by... A beautiful golden locket... I sighed... I wanna know more about her... But... This was all I had.... And the few pictures Grandma had of her when she was young.....

She went missing for almost two decades... Yet by some miracle... They found her... Sure... She didn't last long.... But... My existence is nothing short of a miracle... What are the chances?....

"Aliza? How was your day, dear?..." my grandma spoke up... "It was fine... Passing all my classes... You should know by now Grams... I don't struggle with them...." ".... I know... That's good to hear...... Made any friends yet?....." she asked... I just responded with a head Shake...

"Some kid asked me how my mom died...." I mumbled, Grandma looked away, "... Kids... Kids your age can be pretty cruel... Did you tell on a teacher?" "No... What's the point?... I'm already disliked in school... I don't wanna be known as the school tattletale now do I?..." I mumbled as Grandma nodded... "... Well... Just trust me Aliza... Everyday will get a little easier... I know it can be hard... But...." Grandma sighed, I don't think she had much experience raising a child... Since mom was missing for so long....

"I know Grams... I know..." I looked at my locket... "I'll make it by... I have for nearly 13 years haven't I? Heh....." I said, "Indeed you have... And... I'm so proud of you dear..." "I know Grams... Thank you..." I said, laying back in bed and looking at the ceiling....

"... I'll go make us some dinner dear... If you need me... I'll be downstairs... I love you, Aliza..." she said, smiling, I smiled back, "Love you too Grams..." I said, turning around in bed, looking out of the window at the city of Ebott... The sun beginning to set....
