As the ambulance raced through the streets of downtown, Alex Campbell gripped the steering wheel tightly, her knuckles white with tension. The wailing sirens cut through the heavy air, and the flashing lights painted a crimson and blue strobe across her determined face. Raindrops splattered against the windshield, distorting her view of the chaos outside.

In the passenger seat, her paramedic partner, Mark, was busy preparing the medical equipment they might need. The radio crackled with reports of an accident, but one message, in particular, sent a shiver down Alex's spine.

"We've got Officer Grimes shot in the side."

At the sound of Rick's name, her heart skipped a beat, and she immediately flipped on the sirens to full blast.

As the ambulance pulled up to the chaotic scene, Alex wasted no time. She jumped out of the ambulance and rushed over to where Shane Walsh, the other officer next to Rick, stood. The flashing lights cast an eerie glow on the tense atmosphere.

Rick's voice, though weak, reached her ears as he muttered, "Shane, you do not tell Lori what happened – ever." The urgency in his tone sent a shiver down her spine. She understood the weight of his words and the need to protect Lori from the harsh reality of the situation.

"Rick, don't close your eyes," Alex insisted firmly, her voice a mixture of concern and determination. She knew the importance of keeping him alert and fighting. Mark, her paramedic partner, was quick to assist. Together, they carefully placed Rick on the gurney, ensuring that he remained as stable as possible.

With gentle but swift movements, they secured the gurney in the back of the ambulance, knowing that time was of the essence.
