She released another puff of smoke as the cigarette lingered in between her fingers. The dimly lit bedroom mellowed her out even further. Another night. Another isolated experience from the world. Monday was only hours away and then it's back to the grind. Though, it helped that she could work from anywhere.

Maybe that new coffee shop down the street could be good to visit tomorrow. It's supposed to rain and the patter against the windows accompanied with a nice Earl Grey tea could be really relaxing. Maybe inspire her to write another article. She shook her head. Wishful thinking wasn't something she prided herself on.

Her cat walked over and laid next to her. She petted Matts, feeling his rumbling purr. He probably could sense she needed some comfort. Deadlines were approaching on submitting three articles and the thoughts surrounding them were a whirlwind battering against her peace of mind. And peace is something of a rarity for journalists.

"You think Mr. Betterman would give me an extension?" She asked Matts.

Matts meowed in response.

"Yeah, I don't think he will either. He knows my work and knows I turn things in on time. And now he expects it every time." She sighed. "So much for being the model employee." She ran one hand through her long brown hair and took a glance at the cigarette lazily dangling in the other. "I need a nice, long break. I racked up enough vacation days, right?"

Matts just snuggled closer in response.

"You don't need a vacation, you freeloader."

She then stood up and looked out the window. City lights twinkled from numerous buildings across the horizon. People and cars traversing the metropolitan labyrinth. Everyone was just living their lives. Everyone was busy. It was hard to imagine it all just stopping for one day. She put her cigarette out in the ashtray next to her.

She actually wished that the constant city activity would cease if only for a little while. People deserved time to recuperate longer than a weekend. They needed to know that a quality life is not a schedule-filled one. Yet, how many of them would actually believe it?

Matts hopped up on the windowsill and looked up at her. He probably would be the main advocate for time away from the noise. Her eyes widened and a smile spread across her face. She lifted him up in triumph. "Matts, thanks to you, I think I know exactly what to write about."

He tilted his head and meowed in response.

"What did you do? Well, a whole lot of nothing. And that's just what the world needs to know."
