Y/N stood frozen, his body stiff with shock as his breath left him. He had already lost Yasaka, and now Kunou... it was happening again. Disbelief gripped him until Headon's scratchy voice, coming from Kunou's lips, shattered the moment.
"Isn't this grand, Y/N? All your fighting, all your struggle—worthless. In the end, I still win," Headon mocked, a twisted smile curling Kunou's face.
Kunou shot down from the sky, Y/N watching helplessly as his daughter struck him square in the chest. His ribs cracked under the force, his body flung backward, colliding hard with the ground. Blood spattered onto the earth as he coughed, struggling to raise his head.
"You could have surrendered, Y/N," Headon sneered, stepping closer. "But honestly, I prefer it this way."
With a swift kick, Headon drove her foot into Y/N's stomach, sending him sprawling onto his back. Groaning, Y/N's gaze wandered until it locked onto Yasaka's broken body. Tears welled in his eyes as he muttered, "I'm sorry... I'm so, so sorry."
Headon rolled her eyes. "Pathetic, Y/N. So what if that dumb bitch is dead?"
Something ignited in Y/N. Heat coursed through him as those vile words filled his ears. Gritting his teeth, he forced himself to his feet, Spinel flying into his hand. With a roar, he raised the sword and swung it at Headon...
But stopped, just inches from her throat. Her smile, her glowing eyes, the way her tails flicked... It was Kunou. He couldn't do it. His heart screamed at him—this was his daughter. And Headon knew it, laughing as she wiped a mock tear from her eye.
"Aww, someone's feeling sentimental."
Y/N knew deep down this wasn't really Kunou—it was a parasite, a monster using her body. Kunou would want him to save the world. But how could he sacrifice his daughter?
He couldn't.
His sword fell, clattering to the ground as his knees gave way beneath him. Tears streamed down Y/N's face as he looked up at the sky, wondering if any of this was worth it. He had come out of seclusion only to discover he had a daughter—and now she was being ripped away from him. Yasaka, Hecate, Gabriel, Venelana... all of them.
"I'm sorry," he whispered.
Headon's voice came, cold and triumphant. "What was that?"
"Shut up... Just get it over with."
Headon chuckled, her voice vibrating with cruel delight. "Oh no, Y/N, I'm not killing you here. I've already taken two of the most important people in your life. Now, I'm going to take everything else."
She strolled over to Yama's lifeless body, snapping her fingers as his corpse floated beside her. A white portal began to form. "If you'll excuse me—"
"I'm sorry, Kunou." Y/N's voice broke as he gripped his sword and dashed forward, intent on ending Headon once and for all.
But again, he couldn't. His arm went limp as he halted just feet away, unable to finish it.
Headon grinned. "That's what I thought. See you soon, Y/N."
He landed in the ruined throne room, where Apollo was frantically tending to the injured. The god turned, dread filling his features as he saw Y/N—bloodied, hollow-eyed, and carrying a lifeless body.
"Y/N, what happened?"
"Help her," Y/N demanded, his voice laced with venom.
Apollo hesitated. "What?"
Y/N's teeth ground together. "Can you help her, Apollo?"
Apollo approached cautiously, examining Yasaka's body. With a snap of his fingers, two aides rushed to his side. "Get her onto a gurney, and have Asclepius see her. She's in grave danger, but we may be able to save her."
