Sleep was slowly becoming unfamiliar in my vocabulary. My dreams were constantly coming back to the night Ruby almost lost her life. There was a time after that where all of us three took some time away from each other and I admit it wasn't easy. I was invited to a few parties the last few weeks from people I hardly knew, but I declined every single one. My mind wouldn't focus when it came to work and everything seemed to fall apart. I listened to the articles on the magazines I read and tried contacting my family, cause that's what the 'solution' when your mental health is getting worse. Only thing I got was their voicemails. Colby called a few times but I didn't find a reason to talk to him. Our friendship couldn't remain the same and I was drained to even try. I missed Ruby and Astoria. I was so used to their presence that when we drew apart from each other it felt weirdly lonely. I remained patient and didn't make any attempt to contact them, not until a few weeks ago. Turned out I was so anxious for nothing. They immediately agreed on meeting up and if you ask me, the connection between us seemed stronger from the moment we sat down to catch up. It took us a few meetups to go back to the way things were but when they did, I was more than grateful.
We were chilling at my place when I got a text on my phone. I was washing the dishes so I asked one of them to check what it was about.
"Someone named Amber invites you to a party tonight" Astoria yelled from the living room
"Ugh say I can't" I yelled back drying my hands on a towel next to me.
"Uh no? We're going" I heard Ruby reply and the sound of texting right after. I cursed under my breath.
"Let's skip that this time. These kind of parties are usually a bummer anyways" I lied, they were always a hit and everybody knew about them.
"Oh shutup I already said we're going" she said as my phone dinged again.
"12 o'clock at a club next town". I glanced at the wall clock. 4 hours to get ready. I accepted my fate and mumbled an 'Alright' as they broke into happy cheers.
We got ready and 'accidentally' matched colors. Ruby in a white cute lacey dress, Astoria in a short red one, which somehow completed her perfectly, and I decided to go with a leather black one, I'd bought a while back but never actually found a place to wear it at. Astoria took care of my makeup while Ruby did my makeup. I loved the way they made me feel and I never skipped the opportunity to show them whenever I got the chance.
When we got there, it was already full of people. We were all lost for words when we realized that the whole place was full of famous people. My eye caught some snack looking guys before I felt hands wrapping me tight.
"You came!" I heard the sweet voice I've missed tons as I hugged Amber back.
"THAT'S Amber?" I laughed and pulled away from the hug to see a shocked Ruby. "I think you forgot to mention you meant Amber SCHOLL!" Ruby basically fell to her knees in an attempt to 'praise' Amber who laughed and immediately hugged the blonde. I left them to chat and went to pour myself some punch I saw when we got here. The vibe was already perfect and all I wanted was to get wasted. And so I did. With four glasses of shots I went back to my friends that didn't spend a second before downing the shots. After a few more, the room was already spinning. My body was moving with the music, my hands interlocked with Tara's that had shown up a few minutes ago. I had lost track of time but I was too busy living the time of my life to care. Just as I thought that nothing could ruin this night, it did. The small crowd that was formed infront of the entrance was slowly getting me curious.
"What's the matter" I said to myself as I drunkenly made my way through the crowd. I regretted every life decision I've made when I saw Sam and Colby hugging probably some fans. As I turned to go back I heard my name come from Colby's mouth. I quickened my steps and rushed for the bathroom when his hand on my wrist stopped me. I turned around and tried my best to act surprised.
"Colby! I didn't know you'd be here" I hugged him back as I noticed the strong scent on his body.
"You're the unexpected one here! You came to a party?!" his excitement could be seen from miles away. We talked for a while before his friends called us over.
"Oh I'll go find my friends, they're probably wasted by now"
"Oh comeonn just for a bit" he dragged me along as I playfully hit his arm to let me go. Jake was there and I almost choked from how hard his hug was. I had distanced myself from people that genuinely cared about me and for what? Sam? Sam. A rush of anxiety washed over me as I warningly looked around me to spot him. My gesture must have been noticable enough cause I saw a few eyes on me. I excused myself and went back on searching for my friends. My mind calmed down when I saw the blonde hair I knew so well.
"Ruby! I was searching for you, you okay?" I said and wiped a bit of lip liner from the corner of her mouth that had got ruined. I took my eyes off of her and onto the person that had her full on attention before I interrupted them, a short black haired girl with big eyeliner. She looked kind of, jealous? Then it hit me.
"Oh my god I'm so sorry" I felt my face go red as Ruby giggled saying something to the girl next to her that immediately relaxed and nodded. I must have stumbled backwards cause my back hit someone else's. I quickly turned around to apologize, still smiling like an idiot from what had just happened, when my smile died faster than my will to live. His eyes landed on me when mine landed on the hands around his waist. And then to the redhaired gripping his waist, staring back at me.
