Raven, Connor, and Aaron's hangout session was already another successful evening. It was becoming common that the trio were seen together, heads bent in concentration, emphasizing over their strategy for the task at hand. Raven always came to their gaming nights as a challenge. She was a formidable opponent and rose to every challenge with a gusto. She focused intently on the game, never wanting to give up. Aaron noticed that something was different this time. While they were playing and laughing, Raven would occasionally glance at Connor with a small, almost unnoticeable, smile. Aaron, the ever present observer, didn't quite understand what was different but acted as if nothing was odd. Connor on the other hand was completely aware of the situation. He could hardly contain his glee that Raven would look at him like that and he always was sure to reply with an equally matching smile that seemed to appease her. He wasn't sure what it was about Raven that made him feel so nervous when they hung out but he knew that he didn't want it to change. Each time Raven assumed the game to be in her favour, her competitive streak surfaced and she'd fight even harder. While it made Aaron and Connor shake their heads in amusement, it was also the moment Connor knew he was completely in love with her. One time, as they ended the game with an exciting and closely-fought victory. Raven offered her a congratulatory handshake before turning away. Flustered and embarrassed, Connor tried to gather himself, but he couldn't help blushing like a schoolboy, which raised some eyebrows among his friends. One night, Aaron saw Raven and Connor talking privately in the corner of the café where they met every night. Aaron noticed the pair were closer than usual and almost seemed like a mini date. He smiled to himself, thinking that his friend might have finally found what he had been looking for. However, as the weeks and months passed on, Aaron noticed the distance between Raven and Connor become increasingly more apparent. Raven seemed to be avoiding Connor's presence and hardly acknowledged him with anything more than a passing wave. Aaron would ask her if she was ok, but she would just shrug and make a joke. Little did Aaron know, Raven had developed feelings for Connor and she was struggling to contain them. She had been used to living life alone, relying only on her father, and never really letting anyone in. She couldn't accept that she had begun to care for someone else and was too proud to accept that she may have become vulnerable. The further the days went on, the clearer Raven's fear of letting anyone in became and the further and further away she pushed Connor. Unknown to the others, Raven had begun to write and produce a new channel on YouTube, conceptually based nonconfidence, all in an effort to prove to herself that she had control and will never be wrong. The success of her channel started to rise, but it only fed her insecurities and caused her to distance herself even further away from the people around her. Though her passion and competitive nature were a large part of what made her successful and kept her head high, being alone in the corner each week also showed that Raven was too scared to truly let anyone in.
