Justitia Omnibus- "Justice for all" -The Motto of D.C

January, 1865-District of Columbia

Cara smiles in relief. She can't believe it. She really can't believe it. The Thirteenth Amendment had actually been passed. Slaves are actually free now.

She knows this was just one step in the direction towards freedom for everyone. There was still a long way to go, but it was a step in the right direction.

However, Cara doesn't care about the future at that moment.

She's just so happy.

The death of all of the slaves hadn't been in vain.

She would make sure they weren't.

Freedom and Unity-The Motto of Vermont

June 1st, 1774-Portsmouth, Province of New Hampshire

Bells toll in the distance as Cass steps back in the house. Monty gazes out the window at all the flags at half-mast and all the houses draped in mourning.

This was the first time in her life Monty has ever seen such unity.

It was beautiful.

This was one of the first steps towards unification of the colonies.

And she can't wait to see them fully united.

United We Stand, Divided We Fall-The Motto of Kentucky

December 20th, 1861-District of Columbia

Jamie still can't believe it. It has been a little over eight months since this godforsaken war started.

He remembers the tears that had streamed down Alfred's face when Luke, Harry and Dally left.

How Jenny silently cried as Val left.

The screaming match Sera and Shiloh had gotten into when Shiloh left for the Confederacy. The numb stare Adam gave him as he curled into his chest.

Pain in his chest shocks him out of his memories as Adam sighs into his neck.

For the record, he didn't expect a splinter government to form.

He also didn't expect it to hurt so much when the splinter government was admitted to the Confederacy.

He holds onto Adam tighter as he shifts in Jamie's arms.

He didn't want him to leave.

At least, not yet.
