I wake up following my daily routine for school. Shower, get dressed, do my hair, then leave and wait for the bus.

At the bus stop, I don't see Amina. I frowned. I wanted to talk to her. It's petty to stop being friends over a little fight.

On the bus, the doors closed and started to move before it came to a quick halt. The doors opened once again and Amina came into view breathing hard, backpack half open slung over her shoulder like she was running late. She sat next to me. I decided to play with her.

I roll my eyes "Ugh. Why are you sitting here, don't you have to go criticize other people's lives or something?"

"You're still on that. I said I was sorry like a thousand times. You know you my girl. My ride or die."

"I don't know about allat. But what I do know is that you better get out my seat." I said with a fake attitude.

"Are you serious? You're really gonna end our friendship over that little argument. Are you for real right now?"

Just as she was about to get up and move. I grabbed her arm and busted out laughing.

"What is so funny?"

"You" I managed to say in between laughs.

"And why am I so funny?" She said with an attitude that made me crack up even more.

"I was just playing with ya"

"Gurl that ain't funny." She playfully pushed my shoulder before continuing. "I thought you was for real. Gurl why you not in drama? Cuz you sure had me fooled."

"I just wanted to see your reaction and what you would do, but uh, I don't know. I prolly should, maybe next year."

"Good."

"So, I uh heard from Nat that you broke things off with him."

"Yea, I did. I just couldn't handle all that stress, ya know. I'm 15, I should be focusing on having fun my teen years not drowning in sadness. Antyways, how are you and Derrick?"

"We're okay. We had our first fight but we worked it out like the young adults we are."

"Oh cool. how old is Derrick by the way?"

"18, why?"

"Just wondering. So he's legally an adult, doesn't that scare you a bit."

"No, I mean why should it. He only about two years older than me. What you doing for the holidays?"

"Visiting my family out in Georgia. How bout you?"

"The usual, go to church, see my family. After that me and my mom just spend the rest of the day watching Christmas movies while eating cookies and cakes with ice cream and socializing catching up."

"Oh that sounds nice."

"Yea"

The bus pulls up at the school. The day goes by pretty fast, and I'm home again.

Christmas Day

Monique Pov

I wake up to the striped lighting caused by the blinds on my window. I yawn checking my phone. I see the time and date and realize its Christmas and I overslept for church. I rush to my moms room and she's wide awake.

"Ma, why didn't you wake me up for church?"

"Because we're not going today. We're going to try something new to spice up the holidays. So get dressed, we're leaving in an hour."
