The Dumb/Amazing School Trip

Chapter 16 - The Race

The moment me and Jack are outside the woodland area four very sweaty boys run at full speed at us laughing and screaming. I tucked the'flags' into my back pocket before so now I pull them out and hand them to the buzzing Jay. "Yessss I knew it would work, TEAM TINY!" Jay screams as he hugs me and whispers thank you in my ear and turns to a laughing Jack.

Graham comes over and shakes my shoulders and is in the middle of doing a happy dance while Tim is on the floor and looks dead to be honest. "You good down there?" I ask the panting boy below my feet and smile. "Yeah just a tad warm" he says as he covers his face. I turn around and see a very sweaty Logan, his hair is stuck a bit on his forehead and his t-shirt is tight to his chest showing his sculpted abs and I gulp.

 He's smiling from ear to ear and when he catches me smiling at him, he opens his arms and before I have time to react I am in the air and his big arms are wrapped around my waist and he's jumping up and down. I hit him in the head and demanded to be put down but I am ignored and soon the other boys were surrounding us and shouting not 'Team Tiny' but at the top of all their lungs they are screaming "Luna Loo!" They are chanting it.

 Everyone in the other teams are all sweaty and look defeated and I feel sorry for them for a moment, then I catch daisy and 'Team Hotties' looking at me in disgust and I have no sympathy just happiness because we fucking won! I finally did something better than Daisy and I am happy about it, no scratch that I am proud, Im proud of myself.

I look down at the boys shouting my name and giggle I am so fucking happy, I just don't want it to go away. Logan places me on the ground and hugs me tight and hard. I look to my side and see Jack looking unimpressed and I just wink at him and suddenly he's smiling like he read my mind when I say "Game on". Logan drops me and Mrs Willow shouts for us to gather around again, we all head round and I fix my hair. Jack is beside me nudging me with his shoulder but I ignore him and listen to Mrs willow. 

"Well done" she laughs before continuing "Team Tiny, you have one the first game and if you keep it up you win our amazing prize!" I whip my head round to Jay who is beside me with a puzzled look and tug on his shirt for his attention, he looks down with a slanted smile "What?" he says. "You forgot to mention there was a prize, what is it?"

I asked in a whisper but yet people turn in our direction but Jay doesn't seem to notice and just shrugs saying the prize is a mystery. Interestingly this is also another reason to actually try to win now. "Now we have a race!" Mrs Willow's loud voice attracts my attention again. "Each team picks a member from their group to run and then the race will take place!" chatter soon spills out from everyone and teams move away from each other to decide.

We are all now standing under the tree me and Jack were at 'before capture the flag'. I am just fixing my shoes and not paying attention. I assume Logan or Tim will do the race. I think they are the fastest or maybe Jay because he loves this all so much. "And that's why I think Luna Loo here should do the race!" I hear the end of Jack's speech and snap upright with my jaw nearly touching the floor, "What?" 

Suddenly they are all in agreement with me doing the race. "Luna Loo don't lie your really fast we all saw you today running to the woods" Graham says and Tim agrees. "Plus at school when we are doing football I always see you running to catch the bus," Logan says quietly from next to me and I whip my head up to him. Does he notice me in school? 

Shit what if Jack was right? Does Logan like me back? A light rose colour spreads his face when I stare at him so I turn my head to look at Jack who's got a 'told you so' look on his face and I shake my head and look up at the sky nearly blinding myself, I take a deep breath in. I should really do this and make myself proud and also I could do it for my dad. 

He always said he loved watching me run and loved it even more when I won and got really excited. I look back at all the boys waiting for an answer and just nod my head with a sigh and they all cheer me on. "Runners come round her, this is the starting line!" The male teacher shouts and I move to go over but suddenly an arm hooks round mine and I look up to see Jack smiling down at me. "You know my genius plan?" 

I nod my head and he continues "When the race finishes say you're oh so warm and take the top off and show your amazing boobies!" he nearly screams and I swat his arm hissing at him to be quiet. We arrive at the line and I get in place as Jack stands with the others by the side, Mrs Willow smiles at me as she stands with the boys and gives me a thumbs up.

I look to my side to see my competition just to see Mrs bitchy queen, next to her is a tall but lanky boy and another short but built boy followed by two kinds of sporty looking girls, i can crush all of them.

"The finish line is where Mr Johnston is standing up ahead" the male teacher says and i look far up and see a small ginger man waving at us.

"First one there wins the race!" he shouts and goes to the side. I take a shaky breath in and look up to the sky, wish me luck dad.

"Nervous little Luna?" daisy says from next to me.

I flip my hair over my shoulder and grin at her "Nope but you should be"

Right as I say it the horn blows and i sprint forwards.
