"Icepool, you're having kits!" Squirrelflight exclaimed, her expression suddenly bubbling with joy.
"Uh... yeah... isn't that...wonderful?" Icepool mumbled.
"Icepool's having kits?!" Cloudtail asked loudly, sounding confused.
Several cats turned to look at Icepool.
Icepool glared inwardly at Cloudtail. Wonderful timing, Cloudtail!
"This is such a happy event... oh, if only Bramblestar were awake to see it." Squirrelflight sighed.
Seriously? Does everything go back to that pile of fox dung?
"Uh... yeah, sure," Icepool muttered sarcastically.
"Icepool, this really is great news. Who's the lucky father?" Squirrelflight beamed.
"Uh..." You really don't want me to answer that. "I'm uh... not really sure."
Squirrelflight's smile fell an inch before returning again. "Oh! Is that why you were asking about cats?"
"Uh...yeah."
"You should move into the nursery," Alderheart suggested.
"Wait, what?!" Icepool gaped at him. "But...but I'm a warrior!" And I need to meet Shadowpaw again!
Icepool has asked Shadowpaw, just before he left, if they could meet again that night, and miraculously, he'd agreed. Icepool hadn't been sure if she was more relieved or nervous.
"No, you're a queen now, which means you need to rest in the nursery," Alderheart mewed, more sternly now.
"But... but..." Icepool struggled to find an excuse.
"I know it's hard, giving up your warrior duties," Squirrelflight began, "And I didn't want to stop helping my clan either, but it's important for your kits."
Icepool opened her mouth to reply some reason for her to stay out of the nursery but found none. "I..."
"You'll be fine," Squirrelflight assured. "Daisy and Sparkpelt will be there too."
Icepool wondered how the thought that Sparkpelt would be there was supposed to help her. Sparkpelt was Squirrelflight other daughter, and not to mention the fact that she was the daughter of that mouse dung Bramblestar!
Sometimes, Icepool actually felt bad for the mice for calling their dung Bramblestar- it was an insult to something she ate and hunted, really.
When Icepool was younger, she used to think Squirrelflight loved Sparkpelt more; Sparkpelt was the daughter of the deputy and clan leader, and not only that but she was a great hunter. Icepool tried to shake the thoughts off her mind, but they stuck to her like thorns.
"Okay," Icepool half-groaned, trying to get her brain working and figure out an excuse. "Um... but how will I get an apprentice if I'm a queen?" Icepool tried, and Squirrelflight rolled her eyes.
"You can have an apprentice when you're back to your warrior duties, but now, you're going to get your tail in the nursery or so help me drag you in there." Squirrelflight's patience was clearly coming close to it's end.
Icepool dragged her paws into the nursery, which was cramped and she knew would feel even smaller when she gave birth to her kits.
And now I won't be able to see Shadowpaw for moons!
