Icepool was lost in her own world of love.
Her three kits were snuggled up beside her, each of them perfect in her own way. Icepool had named one of them already; Flowerkit. Flowerkit had ginger and golden fur, with one grey paw and amber eyes just like Shadowsight.
Icepool hadn't even thought of what to do if some cat recognized Shadowsight in the kits, but the thought plagued her like green cough now.
What if some cat finds out?
Icepool slid gently to her paws, nudged her kits warmer into the moss of their nest, then crept to the entrance of the nursery. The sun was rising, and still, none of the cats had returned, including Bramblestar.
He was a mouse-brain, but ThunderClan still needs a leader, albeit how annoying he may be!
Icepool sighed. She missed Shadowsight and Squirrelflight, and felt a tingle of anxiety as she watched the sun crawl higher and higher into the sky without Squirrelflight and the others returning.
Thud. Bump. Thud. Bump.
Icepool's ears swerved in the direction of the camp entrance and her heart raced, but slowed a bit when she listened carefully.
It sounds as if they're carrying something.
Something limp.
Prey? Icepool thought hopefully although she knew the answer.
Perhaps that was why she felt no surprise when she saw Bramblestar's lifeless body being dragged into camp, with Squirrelflight hanging her head low and her tail drooping, and Jayfeather looking furious.
"Oh no," Daisy whispered as she peeked from inside the nursery.
The entire clan had woken up now, peering with shock down at the cats.
"Bramblestar....is dead."
