The next day, Y/N walks into Leon's office with a smile on their face.

They had thought that going to get drinks with Leon would make them closer to him, they thought that they were finally in the range of closeness with him that they truly desired.

"Morning Leon!" Y/N said happily and smiled down at Leon, who's sitting in his chair doing paperwork like usual.

But, Leon wasn't so happy.

"Yeah, yeah. Sit down L/N." Leon grumbles, seeming annoyed by Y/N's presence.

Y/N does as he said, sitting down with a confused expression on their face, seeming very hurt by his tone.

Leon finishes his work and leaves without a single word to Y/N, and that only hurt them even more.

They begin filing his work, finishing quickly because they had a very very big day today.

Y/N was so excited to tell Leon their big news, but they figured it would be okay and they could always tell him tomorrow.

Not to mention they weren't completely upset about his tone, Leon is a top agent with a busy schedule. Of course some days he'll be distant, busy, stressed, and even grumpy: how could he not be?

However, they didn't expect Leon's cold behavior to go on throughout the whole week.

Leon was so cold, so rude to them the whole week. It only got progressively worse, and Y/N gave up on the idea of telling him in person, deciding to leave a note.

Friday..

Leon walked in his office and sat down, rubbing his temples.

He felt bad, guilty even for ignoring Y/N, and he was tired of doing it. Y/N was a good person, and a hell of a dedicated rookie. He would even consider them a friend at this point, so he decided to stop ignoring them and treating them badly today, they didn't deserve that behavior.

Even if Leon has feelings for them, he can get over it, right?

That was until, he found the note..

"Dear Leon,
I didn't have the chance to tell you this in person due to your busy schedule, which I totally understand, you're like D.S.O Royalty, of course you'd be busy. But anyways, I decided to write you this to let you know I won't be in the office for a couple weeks, because I'm going on my FIRST field mission!! I'm so nervous, but also excited. I'm sure I'll do fine, I was trained by the best. I'll see you when I return.

                              -Y/N

A surge of guilt surged through Leon's entire being.

Y/N, his rookie, on their first field mission? And the whole week before it, he ignored them. He felt like an ass.

In a situation where Y/N needed all the support they could get, he didn't even say good morning to them.

But, another thought came to his mind.

What if this was it? What if Y/N got seriously hurt or worse.. died on this mission, and the entire week before it he was so awful.

Their last memory of Leon would be him literally ignoring them after taking them to drinks one time.

He felt so awful, and he wished he would have just acted his own age.

Y/N was so mature about this, thinking of a rational reason why Leon was acting this way, and even left him a note that was very kind.

He should have gotten called out, cursed at, but Y/N didn't seem to have the heart to do it.

That's when it clicked. Leon sees himself in Y/N. They were so sweet, caring, determined to do the right thing. Just like he was, all those years ago.

He wished he would have just gotten the courage to talk to Y/N before this mission, maybe even tell them how he feels. But Leon couldn't do that.

All he could do was hope that Y/N would come out okay.

Later in the day..

Leon was in the break room, getting some coffee to clear his mind.

And in walked Luis Sera.

"Aye Sancho, what appears to be the problem?" Luis asked with a smile.

Luis was the one person Leon really let get super close to him, being someone Leon saved back in Spain all those years ago.

"Y/N, my rookie, is on their first field mission." Leon says, being saddened even just saying it.

"Shouldn't you be proud though, Sancho?" Luis asked with a big smile. "Your little birdie is leaving the nest, ready to go out and be the best agent they can be. It's how it's supposed to work." He says.

Luis has a point, but Leon can't help but feel sad still.

"Luis.. it's not, fully that part. But it is hard, Y/N is the first rookie I've trained, it's hard to imagine letting go." Leon starts with a sigh. "But, the entire week before Y/N's mission I kinda.. ignored them." Leon says sadly.

Luis tilts his head, confused as to why in the world Leon would do that at all. "But, why?"

Leon looked away and sighed. "Luis, you have to swear to never in your life tell a soul what I'm about to tell you." He says, to which Luis nods.

"Leon, Mi amigo, ¿Por qué le contaría a alguien tus secretos?" (why would i ever tell anyone your secrets?) he asks with a smile.

"Okay, Luis I.." Leon hesitates, unsure of how Luis will react to the information.

"I think I have some feelings for Y/N." Leon admits, and now that he says it out loud, it feels like an understatement.

Luis looks shocked for a moment but nods. "I see, perro sucio." (Dirty dog) Luis smirks and nudges Leon with his elbow.

"No! No not like that, even though; I did have a sexually charged dream about Y/N but, only one time." Leon says defensively, getting slightly embarrassed.

"Aye, I don't judge Sancho. Y/N, is a pretty one, I'll admit. Not my type though, and too young for me." Luis starts.

He then nudges Leon again and smiles. "Young for you too, eh?" Luis jokes and laughs.

Leon groans. "Luis! Not helpful. Y/N.. is young. They're twenty three, I'm thirty four. But: they're so mature, so sweet, so beautiful.." he smiles as he talks about Y/N, his whole expression softening and seeming more relaxed, calm. Luis, takes very obvious notice to that.

"Sancho, this doesn't just sound like a passing crush, this sounds like.." Luis gets closer to Leon and whispers. "Los amas.." he whispers.

Leon's eyes widen, shaking his head. "No, no no no, no way. I can't love Y/N, I can't. They're too young, our relationship wouldn't be appropriate, it wouldn't even work-" he starts.

"Leon of course it could, if you really love- or even like Y/N, it could work. You'll never know until you try." Luis says encouragingly.

He then smiles and pats Leon's back. "I'd wait a little longer to tell them, so your feelings are clear. But Sancho, don't waste a good chance at happiness."

Leon hates to admit it, but Luis is right. As scary and as insane as it sounds, Leon has to tell Y/N about this eventually, it can't be a secret forever. Not only that, but he certainly can't keep being rude to Y/N.

People start rushing down the hall though, most of them being in suits.

Leon and Luis look at eachother and then rush out with them.

"Hey! What's going on here?!" Leon asks one of the men.

The man, whos rushing to the elevator to get to the heli pad, looks back at Leon and answers fast. "L/N's mission has gone wrong sir!" He says as he gets in the elevator in a hurry.

Gone.. wrong?
