Emilia had searched all over the Queens hall to find Benedict but there was not a trace of him. All the Bridgertons had said that he was looking for her so they must have been just missing each other constantly. So she decided to stay in once place to find her. She stood on the grand back porch of the hall, outside where no one but her best friend would be able to find her. She dug in her bra to find the cigar and lighter that she had stashed in there as she knew she would need it at the end of the night. She found it and brought it to her mouth to light it and took a large exhale before letting the smoke out."Is that how a lady of the Ton is supposed to act?" A voice that is none other than her best friends came up behind her.
"Is that how a courting gentleman is supposed the approach a lady?" Emilia turned around and gave a big cheesy grin to her best friend who she'd been missing the presence throughout this long day.
"How are you my diamond of the season?" Benedict jokes teasing her slightly.
"Oh my god. Could you imagine? Me! As a diamond" Emilia said in disbelief.
"Your beautiful, you are the best choice. Anyway the queen didn't look at anyone else the way she looked at you". Emilia thought he was joking until she turned to see the genuine expression in his eyes. She blushed struggling to take the compliment.
Benedict decided to change the conversation when seeing her reaction.
"Would you like to dance my diamond" Benedict presenting his hand to her, putting on his posh voice mimicking the men inside of the ballroom.
"It would be my honour, Benny" Emilia said taking his and and copying the poshness in his voice.
They began to dance in a proper manor. Doing the dances that they had been taught their whole lives and had practiced in the Bridgerton's living room since they were twelve.
As they turned the corner and they knew they were completely out of view, they jumped and spun round completely informally. They both belly laughed as Benedict picked Emilia up and spun her round.
They stopped to catch their breath when they heard a knock on the window next to them. It was Isabella who was pointing at her foot, signalling that she was injured.
Emilia made her way back in and sling her sisters arm over her shoulder, Benedict doing the same to her other arm. Whilst they were doing this they barley noticed the queen getting up to make her announcement of diamond of the season. Emilia was concentrating on getting her sister home when she was ripped out of her thoughts.
"Emilia Beckett"
She was diamond of the season.
She couldn't believe it. Everyone turned to congratulate her, some of her competitors giving her fake smiles. She made eye contact with the queen, both exchanging a smile and a nod. Benedict turned to her giving her a kiss of the forehead and an "i told you so" look.
Emilia thanked all the people who congratulated her and turned her focus back to her sister. Benedict and Emilia helped support Isabella to help her limp out of the building.
It was only when they left that they realised that their mother and younger sisters had taken their carriage when the left and not sent it back for them.
Benedict noticed this."Come on let's take one of the Bridgerton carriages" Benedict insisted.
"Oh no we wouldn't we can just call ours back" Isabella protested.
"No I insist!" Benedict said, not taking no as an answer.
They helped Isabella get into the carriage and Emilia stopped Benedict.
"Thank you Benny. How could I ever repay you?" Emilia said genuinely.
"Don't marry one of those old men in there. No matter how much money they have." Benedict said jokingly but with a twinge of seriousness in his voice.
Emilia leaned up and kissed his cheek and she hugged him, ignoring his last comment.
"Anything for you." Benedict professed. Before they got into the carriage.
