365 days I had, to spend with Chrissie 365 days left on the clock. But she didn't know it, she didn't know she was going to die in a years time. That would hurt, I would know. But she would not. I was ready to wake up now. Three weeks and medicine wa sbeing endlessly pumped into my body. I felt stronger and stronger every day and I was ready, ready to walk, to open my eyes to the light. But I still couldn't, but I could make noise, not talk. I felt like a baby gurgling, because every now and then, when either Laura or Kathryn was talking to me, I'd grunt, and they'd fuss over me ecstatic that I'd made a sound. This happened one day when Kathryn was talking to me about her Dad again. "He mostly just sat there." She said slowly "eyes fixed on the television set, or cooing over baby Laura, once she was born he paid no attention to me. Blamed me for the death of my mother, just because I was with her." I made a sudden sound, without wanting to. "How did she die?" I made another noise, this time it was forced, and used all my energy, I was exhausted afterwards. "She fell off her horse... Into the main road. I was riding with her at the time and when the police arrived they blamed me. Took it to court and everything, I was only 12. And little Laura was 6. When my Mother was in hospital, trying to get better, nothing made me happier than seeing how wonderfully those nurses treated her. That's when I realised that I wanted to become a nurse. But Laura just had to follow me in my footsteps and take my dream from me, she got her degrees and job before me. I wouldn't be working here if it weren't for her." My heart was beating hard in my chest. "I shouldn't bother patients with this though." My arm twitched, all my movement was coming back. But what I would have given to have listened to some music. I tried to say music but it came out in three parts 'muh' I waited for a while 's' then again I caught my breath 'ic' Kathryn got up off of her seat and I heard her go over to the corner of the room, in my head I knew exactly what she looked like, she had red hair, but Laura had blonde hair, and Kathry was short with big eyes. I don't know how I got that from  her voice, but I guess you can just tell sometimes. "Music?" She said, I let out a small squeak. "Well ok then." I heard her open a drawer and get out something. "Here in the kids ward we don't have much, do you like, 'Popular Nursery Rhymes', 'One Direction' or 'Now 69' I made three noises, standing for syllables. I think she got my drift. "Now 69 it is." She put the disc in and I heard it playing softly. I then heard her fumbling about in the left corner of the room. "Patient is awakening. Room 237." Obviously she was alerting a doctor about my progress. Almost immediately, another person came into the room, but not with a voice I recognised. It was another doctor and a nurse. "How much medicine is he taking a day?" The doctor asked, it was a man's voice, gentle, he sounded nice.  Kathryn said "about a patch a day, and has been making increasing progress. All is looking well." The other nurse in the room was Lauren, I thought. From the way that Kathryn spoke to her. "Lift his head a little, I'm sure he's quite sick of lying down for ages." Lauren said, one of the nurses came over to me and propped up my pillow a little, it felt nice but my neck ached. "How is his heart?" The doctor asked, I was listening to the beeping on the machine. "A good pace." Said Lauren, everything seemed to be looking up for me. "That's very good, I'll check back tonight, and see if he's woken up anymore." There was a silence, I assumed they were nodding or approving, acknowledging or something. I just wanted to move, it felt right but I just, I couldn't. I saw this thing once, called Lucid dreaming, where you were asleep, but conscious, and your body was paralysed and anyone could put themselves into that kind of a state. I don't know why anyone would want to though, it felt horrible. And I couldn't go to sleep either because technically, I was already asleep. "He's very hot, I'll get a flannel." Said one of the nurses, I couldn't distinguish between the two yet though, they sounded fairly similar in my defence. Two people left the room and I felt one person's presence beside me. "Hi there Benjamin, my name is Laura, and I'm going to be staying with you overnight if that's okay." I could tell she was smiling, I just could. "Now, I'm just going to give you one final injection. This one may sting a little but it should bring you all back to life again!" She got up and walked across the room. "My sister Kathryn was your nurse before wasn't she? Yeah, she's a real good nurse, you know you're in good hands with her." She walked back over, she probably had the seringe in her hand. She sat back down and injected it into my arm. Then placed what felt like cotton wool over it. "There we go, not so bad. That's all the medicine you'll need today!"
