"Are you sure the coast is clear." I was talking through Ben's phone to Ben and Bella who were on the other end, Christiana had no idea of the plans we were making. "One hundred per cent." Bella said quickly through the phone. I made my way out of my room, the nurses were less regular now and they only came when I pressed the nurse button on the pane, of buttons on my wall. I crept slowly out of the corridor. "Where abouts are you? How long will it take me to get to you do you think?" I said slowly, constantly checking my surroundings. It was midnight, and quite eerie down here, there was no movement or anything. "Almost at the desk, it should take you only about five minutes if you use the elevator by your left side." I looked to the left, she was right, there was an elevator right beside me. "How did you know that elevator was there?" I could almost hear her smiling through the phone. It creeped me out.
"I know everything." She said slowly. "Now get in it and travel to floor B1 that's where we are." I walked into the elevator.
"There's no B1 button, I've pressed 0 where will that take me?" I heard her facepalm.
"That should be okay but you'll have to make your way to the other side of the building where the only elevator that goes directly to B1 is, and you'll have to be extra careful because the ground floor is where the most activity is at this time of night, it's where the night guard dwells and where the staff common room is. Be very very careful." I was deep in it now, I arrived on floor 0 and I could hear the hustle and bustle of the staff moving around and completing work. I took one step and a man's face suddenly appeared out in front of me. I gasped "what are you doing down here young boy." I gulped
"Nothing. My suite is on this floor." The man sighed
"What number I'll take you to it." I was starting to wish I hadn't lied.
"I - I"
"Well spit it out then." The man was fairly young with dark wavy hair and green eyes. His scrubs were purple. And his complexion suggested that he'd just been abroad. "333." The man frowned and consulted his clipboard. "You're Earl Macfarlane?" He asked me, I gulped again, his wide mouth broadened even further into a large grin. "Just messing, Ben Turner right?" He asked, that was my friend Ben, I couldn't have imagined this any better. "Yes. Yes that is me, Ben Turner is me." He slapped me on the back and lead me to Ben's room.
The room was smaller than mine and the bed was creaky. I called Bella again, my finger had slipped and hung up when the doctor jumped out in front of me. "Ben? Is that you? I'm kinda in a sticky situation." I sat down on the bed
"What this time?"
"I'm in your room. Long story I can't explain, but you need to carry out the plan on your own."
"Eurgh, okay, but don't blame me for anything that goes wrong." I jiggled the handle once again, it slowly slid open "wait! It's opened, I'm coming! Where are you?" There was silence, for a minute then Ben said "front desk, so you're not that far away from us right now just find the desk and we can regroup there." I walked slowly out of the room, there was no one in sight but I didn't want to make the same mistake I made last time. I walked very quietly then stopped, I thought I should take my shoes off, then nobody would hear my footsteps. I pulled them off, right foot first. Then continued to walk down the long white hallway. "I'm coming up to the desk now, I think I see you."
"Yeah probably, we just need the files then we can go and get Christiana." I ran to them, "I have mine and Bella's we're searching for yours, we came up to the ground floor when you came here." I nodded, and climbed over the desk,
"Here we go, easy" I said retrieving my medical file. "And Christiana's" I grabbed hold of it and climbed back over the desk. "We have to go and get Chrissie." I said, Ben and Bella both frowned. I sighed, "it doesn't feel right without her, I mean, most of this plan is for her benefit. it is her sister after all." Ben still had a scowl in his face but Bella looked a little more forgiving now, she came and stood by my side and looked at Ben "maybe he's right Ben, it does seem all a little strange." Ben bigged up his chest and shoulders "fine, you can bring a girl along but remember... she's ill, she'll be in a wheelchair. Just another thing to hold us back." I bit my lip, Christiana was worth more than being left behind. "I'll tell you what's holding us back." I protested "You." I said pointing at him, he moved my finger out of the way. "Be that way. I'll be in my room, but don't come crying to me when you need help." He stormed off down the hallway, Bella turned around and looked at me, not blinking. "Guess what I heard."
"What?" I asked
"That before Ben became a patient with bad hearing, he was in the mental ilness part, he's not quite right in the head." I frowned, I wasn't sure it was true but, I was willing to believe her, she was right about everything else after all.
