Another Christmas season had passed; more clothing gifted and jewelry, books and makeup received while dancing in the snow -literally, in Vickie's case. And with the new year came the very busy first few months, which had Vickie hopping up and around the hospital every few seconds.

Which is why, when February 10th came around and it was time for Vickie to head back to Chicago for her brother' wedding, the Yun woman was not ready to hear what her friend had to say.

"Are you kidding me?"

"I'm sorry, Vickie. Really, but talking at the conference could get me-"

"Yeah," the assistant waved him off, plopping down into the chair across from her friends' desk. "I know, sorry. Didn't mean to get mad."

Wilson gave her a sad smile, "It's okay. I really am sorry, for what it's worth."

Vickie nodded before leaning her head back to look up at the ceiling of his office, staring blankly at the ugly spots forming there. "Who's going to be my date for Benny's wedding now?"

{☀️🌩️}

House was twirling his cane around, smiling brightly at a grumpy Vickie who was standing beside him, "Gosh, it's just so exciting," he gushed teasingly. "Do you think I packed the right suit? What was the theme again, money-hungry sibling?"

Vickie turned toward him as the line for entering the plane moved up, they moved with the flow as the assistant raised a stern finger toward him. "You do not talk about Benny like that when we get there, understand?"

Before House had a chance to reply, she added, "Besides, I brought the tie I'd made for Wilson that goes with my dress."

Vickie then went first as she got onto the plane, House entering after her with furrowed brows. "You made Wilson a tie?"

The flight to the Charlotte Douglas airport -where they would have a three hour layover- was only just shy of two hours long. The entire time House kept trying to bother Vickie with questions about her family or just jokes and observations he had made about fellow passengers. He was trying to get her to lighten up, seeing as she'd be coming in close contact with her family for the first time in over two decades and he could see the stress weighing down on her.

Nothing seemed to work. Until, that is, he got out the pack of playing cards he'd brought and they started a round of poker using complimentary peanuts as their chips -he should have known a round of poker would cheer her up.

Once landed at their layover, the boss and assistant duo spread out over the airport. Vickie went off in search of food, while House stayed with their carryons and took a seat amongst all the other passengers waiting on their flights.

He quickly grew bored, though, as Vickie had yet to return within five minutes, and so he quickly got out his phone, calling one of the numbers he knew by heart; "Hey honey, how are the kids? They miss mommy and other daddy?"

Wilson, back at PPTH, handed a tissue to a crying nurse as he said, "This may take a minute."

"What's new with Mr Aphasia?" House asked, once Wilson moved away to a quieter place to talk. He was, of course, referencing to the patient his team had taken on -or, just Foreman who had then roped in the others- and were now having trouble with.
