Can't be myself

Chapter 1

Today I turned 12. You may think this should be exciting, it should, but since Josh got disowned 8 years ago, nothing has been exciting! Mom and Kent are taking me to the mall, to get more "feminine" clothes, since i only wear hoodies. But before we go to the mall, I have school. I go to this all girls catholic school. I don't really have many friends, but I do have Lexi Heart, she is my best friend, known her since the first day of third grade. Her mom put her in the school in kindergarten, but her parents broke up in 2nd grade, so she lives with her dad, and her dad never took her out of the school. I think he's bisexual. Her dad is 27, yeah a young dad, she's 11, her mom is 30. Anyway let's get to school!

"MIA!!" Lexi screamed as my mom dropped me off, she scoffed, "It's Emilia!" My mother mumbled as she walked towards the car. "Anyway, wanna hang out at mine after school? For your birthday?" Lexi said, surprising me that she remembered. "Sorry we can't, it's a Caden tradition to take the 12 year old to the mall, maybe we can hang out tomorrow..?" I said, the bell rang, stopping the conversation, I entered room 197, Lexi following behind. I sat in the seat in the front of the class, while Lexi sat near the back. "The Visitation is the story of Mary's visit to her cousin Elizabeth in the Gospel of Luke. Mary and Elizabeth were both pregnant. When Elizabeth saw Mary, the infant (John the Baptist) leapt in her womb." Said the Catholic teacher. She continued telling us the story, and finally lunch arrived. I ate my cold sandwich.

Finally the bell rang for the end of the day, I'm not very excited for the mall, cause I just want more hoodies and ripped jeans. But mom says I need more dresses. "Emilia, get in the car it's time to go!" Mom yelled as I ran towards her car. "Emilia are you ready? You seriously need more dresses, you dress like a boy!" Mom said as we drove to the mall. We entered a store with just ages pre-me to 15 clothes, that are dresses and just feminine clothes in general. I looked around and saw a dress I thought I kinda like. So I grab the purple dress and try it on. I show Mom, and she approved, so I found some matching purple shoes to go with it. We paid and mom said she would just be in the store next door. I walked around a bit more and saw Josh, technically he noticed me first. "Mia! Hi how's it been?" He asked as I smiled, "Not as great as you would expect!" I replied. "Oh and happy birthday!" He said making me happy. "Eight years and you still remember!" I said. "I thought you said you would get me out of this hellhole." I said. We laughed. "Soon, I have more things on my hands then I planned." Josh said, which confused me, so I asked, "Like what?" He looked at me and said, "How 'bout I tell you another time!" He said exiting and entering a different store, oh yea and he gave me some contact info.

We finally leave and start driving towards a fancy restaurant, Kent is already seated, and me and mom sit down. "So how was school?" Kent asked, "The same." I said, still unhappy to be here. If it was any other birthday, me and Lexi would play games in her basement and watch horror movies. I started blushing thinking about her, and immediately got her out of my mind. We didn't talk much and we just ate. I just ate my salad (no I didn't want a salad) and my parents ate their burgers.
