"Daryl Dixon, you better not be trying to eat that worm."
Said man looked up from his spot on the ground, just staring at her, unmoving for a moment, before slowly tilting his hand to the side and sending the worm tumbling off of his palm and back into the dirt.
The woman sighed, "Come on, let's get back to the others."
He grunted, standing up and dusting his dirty hands off on his pants, falling into step beside Evelyn.
After everything that went down in Grady, it had taken the woman a while to process what had actually happened. And by the time she did, her wounds had mostly healed. Three weeks to be exact.
Also within that time, the group had decided to try and make a journey to get Noah back to his family- and hopefully find a safe place to live with them.
That however, had proven to be a dead end, nobody had been where Noah had taken them, and Tyreese had been bitten. He didn't make it.
And though Evelyn hardly knew the man, there was the all too familiar stab of pain in her heart every time she thought about him, or, better yet, about his sister, Sasha, and about how much she had already lost.
The journey had taken them to Virginia, where Evelyn had spent almost a decade of her life right up until the beginning of the apocalypse.
The mixed emotions following her being home had made her keep her mouth shut to others about it. On one hand, there was a sense of normalcy in roaming her home state, but on the other hand, it brought up the painful memories of those she knew and loved within this state and the unknowing if they were alright or not.
She, along with Daryl, Sasha, and Maggie, had volunteered themselves to go look for water- it had been a day and a half since the group ran out. Only to come up empty handed.
"I hate going back to them without anything." Evelyn admitted softly as she and Daryl maneuvered their way through trees and back out onto the road.
"I know," Daryl offered back quietly. It felt as though it was the only thing he could say.

Yet another engine had run out in the middle of nowhere, leaving the group to have to trek for god knows how long on foot until they reached god knows where.
For the most part, everyone was walking in silence, too consumed by heat exhaustion and thirst to speak.
Evelyn was beside Maggie, who had her head hung low as she stared at the pavement beneath her feet whilst she walked.
Her heart ached for the woman, who had just mere weeks ago lost her last surviving family member, her little sister.
Evelyn could read people well enough to know what Maggie was doing at that moment, she was getting in her own head. She was reliving that moment over and over. The moment she saw her sister's dead body.
There was no doubt that she was scouring her mind for something- anything that she could've done differently, to prevent Beth from dying.
The woman hated that she was doing that to herself, so she did the only thing she could think of in that moment, she opened her mouth and began talking about the first thing that came to mind in order to get Maggie to stop thinking about Beth.
"I used to live in Virginia, you know." Evelyn spoke up softly.
Everyone was walking close enough and it was silent enough that they all clearly heard her. Some of them perked up, some of them just stared ahead, possibly listening.
