" SHIT ! GOD - FUCKING - DAMNIT ! "
THE MORNING STARTED OFF STRONG . THE usual beep of the smoke alarms go off. The house was clouded with smoke. It was the same thing. And once again, JJ brings the red, heavy fire extinguisher that is placed upstairs for some reason instead of the living room or near the kitchen. She hands it to Stuart, which results in him spraying the fire that was in the pan that he tried to use to make pancakes. JJ saw the disappointment in his eyes every time he tried to cook. He tried. He did. But he wasn't very good when it came to being in the kitchen. JJ always tried giving him encouragement, which always managed to make him feel a little bit better. And this always resulted in them ordering breakfast from the diner near their house.
It has been a month since the Johnstons moved from New York to Indiana, and boy, was JJ already bored of the town. She's traveled to the same arcade every weekend, and she's been to the same performing arts center three times a week for the summer musical. Sure, she had made a couple friends. Like the two redheads that always caused trouble with each other, or a couple girls in that same musical. But it wasn't anything like New York. She missed her hometown in Manhattan. It was too quiet. She didn't like that.
"There's nothing here to do," She started, sitting across the table from her father who was focused on the crossword puzzle. But this comment makes him look up.
"Jay, we've been through this. . ."
"I know, but it's too quiet. I can't sleep because it's too quiet," JJ explains, "The only places I've been are the arcade, the performing arts center, and home."
Stuart sighs, putting down the pen that had been in his hand. "That's because you choose to," He says.
"The only place that's in walking distance is the performing arts center," JJ tells him.
Stuart thought for a moment. "How about we take a road trip?"
This makes JJ smile. "Really?"
"Mhm," Stuart hums, "That way, you can know all the places, know all the cool spots. And you won't feel so bored."
"We're in the middle of bumfuck nowhere, dad," JJ snickered, "Pretty sure I'll still feel bored either way."
