Refuge

War erupted in Ukraine,
I was left unsafe,
I will never be the same again,
I became a waif.

13 years old,
Too young to deal with this,
I hope everyone in the UK feels bold,
For saving me when war arose.

Food and shelter,
All you get here,
No love, no compassion,
But at least I’m safe.

My Mother and Father were shot,
I was saved by a lovely old man,
I miss my family every day,
I’d do so much for them to be back again.

I stood  in the hospital ward,
“Your Mum and Dad are gone now”
Tears cascaded down my face,
Who am I supposed to turn to?
What am I supposed to do?

I used to pray they’d get better soon,
But their time was up.
Life tears people away from you at the drop of the hat,
